Ok i was new to modling once there is this magic web site the liek to tech you for free. Go to www.3Dbuzz.com its the best website to lean how to use max. You can take a free online class. Its like a tradition class room and there all video tutorals so your going to need dsl or someting to get the videos fast. Or you could dl them over night. But go there its like were the modling commuinit goes.

u want to model older weapons such as the shotgun, u need to use hmt and extract the model and then open it in max
but i tryed this and it saves the flies as OBJ i think and i cant open them in max??????????

Here is a list of programs for the novice:

Nendo- you can get the demo but you cant import/export, $99
Wings3D - inspired off of Nendo, Free*
Blender - build models, animate and paint, Free

my favorite,
Mirai - VERY EXPENSIVE...$20,000...altho there will soon be a student version released for $400... I got it dirt cheap from a guy that works in Missle Defence, building models! (Build DETAILED models, animate, paint, skin, apply tags to be used by game)

*Best for beginers
