Is it possible to mod the original .map files instead cache?

Post by caliguy25 »

I want to permanently mod all the maps in halo so that my friends and i can have fun playing split screen but having only 3 cache files for all the halo multiplayer maps is annoying...I was wondering if it was possible to edit the original .map files...I know sparkedit has a decompress feature which works fine but the compress feature never compresses...HMT3 also doesnt allow use of compressed files...any help?

edit the cache file and compress it with Sparkedit and rename the compressed file to its original name. i.e. if its bloodgulch rename from cache00x.map to bloodgulch.map

and put in in ur maps folder over the original

certain mods that you apply to the cache files disable them from being opened in spark edit. So there are two options. 1. resend the cache file to your Xbox every time you want to play it. or 2. make a backup of you favorite halo cache file somewhere on your xbox's harddrive and use XCommand to copy the file to your x,y, z folder whenever you want to play it so you don't have to use your computer.

But of course, whenever you can, it's just best to compress it with sparkedit.
