Serious?

I thought he was being sarcastic at first..
Re: I'll fix the site.
He's entirely serious. He only posts concerning the site to say he agrees with the administration. Never has other input or contributions to make other than "We're right, you're wrong." His only posts in almost two months have just been to tell people they're wrong and the site is perfect. He's essentially trolling. Let it be, no point in arguing. He's only been here since 2007, he only has 63 posts. Take his trolling posts with a grain of salt.

Re: I'll fix the site.
Hi Mr. I_F. =o
So after writing about 10 drafts of a response, I will try to say something that's multi-faceted, multi-sided, quite complex, and chimeric in nature, in as little words as possible.
There are so many sides to this... all of which have things that have been done right, and things that have been done wrong.
I'd like to point those out, but it'd just restate what everyone already knows and has been dealing with since December.
At first I thought this thread really should have been done through PMs as all it does is attract the "coup" mob mentality following Forgie's proposition, but then I realized that PMs wouldn't have gone anywhere, and I_F probably already thought that out.
This thread is kinda culminating one thing: pick sides.
SourceGuy and the forces (on both sides) of trying to keep this place together have done good, and have done bad.
Iron_Forge and the forces (on both sides) of trying to "fix" these changes have done good, and have done bad.
What I'd like to see out of anything that happens, is mutual respect for both views and opinions, and continuation of what we're both trying to save: the remnants of the Halomods community.
Now, I did not quite expect I_F's "return" to Halomods, but what I didn't expect even more was the Spanish Inquisition!
Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! And an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope!

Re: I'll fix the site.
The community sustained itself with minimal administrative intervention for years. Changes have done nothing to facilitate a revival. Finances are still a problem for the current administration, even with the obnoxious ads and nonsense. A person is offering to pay for the site out of their pocket, and to take the burden off of the current admin (And I'm calling it a burden for good reason, with evidence from comments SG has made to me, he's not happy with a lot going on towards him, just like many members of the community aren't happy with his choices either. It's a very accurate term to describe the situation, so don't get on me about that). There is no benefit to keeping the site as it is right now, and there are multiple benefits to changing it. The only reasons for not giving the site to someone with the finances for it are A) The site has now become profitable or B) Pride is too much to turn the site over, and it's better for it to die than to give it to someone you disagree with.Ketchup_Bomb wrote:What I'd like to see out of anything that happens, is mutual respect for both views and opinions, and continuation of what we're both trying to save: the remnants of the Halomods community.
Re: I'll fix the site.
As a long time coworker with SourceGuy, I like to note Ketchup's perspective in a lot of this. Tural has also provided valuable insight of SourceGuy's heavy position as well. Call me crazy, but I like to think that we can also go beyond saving the "remnants" of this place. Like I said in my other post, this place still has the same potential it had years ago for a large part of it.. save a lot of the modding of course; some of it is simply too outdated to see a lot of quality. Still, aside from those who are simply tired of Halo, there's still a lot of fun to be had that can be jump-started from here. Sure, it's going to require us as the community to move a little more seriously, and it'll take a lot of adjustments from the Administration to steer the site back to its original format that made jump-starting all these great things simple and possible. But in the end, if people seriously take a step back and truly want to fuel this site, there aren't many reasons we can't have it really kicking again as a major player in the Halo and Halo Modding scene.

This website needs to be fixed.
And under it's current circumstances, I doubt it's going to happen.
I approve of IF.

Re: I'll fix the site.
Lets all be honest. SG can't handle the site, He even said that he is losing motivation for maintaining the site. If that's the case just hand it over to I_F.

What about the people floating in the water? are they also rejoicing, or is it just the select few in the boat that are happy about a new captain?
Re: I'll fix the site.
Yes and theyve posted here agreeing.. Cant you see that. Its either you agree or disagree, and i see a whole lot of agreement. People who just dont care to even post either havent seen this topic or dont truly give a shit about the site.

Can we just give I_F the site and everyone goes home happy already?

Re: I'll fix the site.
OK, an update to where we stand...Source was kind enough to contact me regarding the transference of the site...After Gren gave (key word there) him the site, SourceGuy bought two servers, one of which he managed to break...These are apparently the really good kind of servers that don't come with warranty...He doesn't pay to host it, since he hosts it himself (one of the reasons I recommended Gren transfer the site to him), however he feels he's put alot of effort into the site, to which I can only assume he means to alienate the majority its members...Course, I've put alot of effort into the site over the years too, but that was out of the kindness of my heart for the community, not because I'm a greedy whore...
That being said, the site is as good as mine, as long as I'm willing to compensate SourceGuy for the two servers he purchased (including the one he broke), and his efforts thus far...He's going to sleep on it to come up with a value for that...Should I not be willing to pay that value, he'll hold onto the site until it at least breaks even for him with the pitiful ad revenue he somehow expected to be miraculous...I hope you all like pop-unders and banners with virii...I hear those pay the best...
We'll have to wait till tomorrow to see what the damage in theory is going to be to my wallet...Couple of things, should I obtain the site, banners will just go away...There might be a small google ad near the top if I can incorporate it well, but ads are all but pointless anyways, and I'd rather have a happy community...I will also be looking for a development crew...I have several good ideas on how to build on the community feel and draw in new members to the community without trying to become a generic modding site, or something else that we're not...Think along the lines of building the community we have to be a great place to be and hang out, without forgetting where we came from...
Here's crossing our toes that all works out...

Re: I'll fix the site.
I'm interested in how much the warranty-less server, second server, and "his efforts" are valued at. As far as I know, nobody here was paid for their involvement in the changes, they were doing it because they cared about the site and the community. Now these efforts are being quantified and given a value, interesting.
