H2X-Draco Project

Post by FleetAdmiralBacon »

So... What's this all about?
Back in the bad old days of CE, I made a very controversial vehicle. A number of people here liked it, and it was extremely popular with noob players and mappers alike, but it had a few issues (namely, the model sucked, and it was extremely cheap in combat!), and quite a few people hated it (or me? Hey, three years ago, Snaf gave me the honor of being one of the top five failures of CE!). Suffice it to say, after the Draco, I never really did much with CE (except some more stuff with the Draco that never went any where), and now CE is pretty much dead. So, to let it die in peace, I'll move on to H2X and see what can be done.

Why?
- Because I'm rather bored at the moment.
- I've never really done any Halo 2 Xbox modding. At all.
- Thanks to a number of improvements in the engine from Halo 1 to Halo 2, the Draco would actually function rather nicely, especially in a large SP-MP BSP conversion. Yay walking inside of the Draco while it's flying!
- Because we can? Seriously, we have PMI, we can hack together a proper physics model, there are tons of ways to do collision. It'll be fun.

The New Draco...
Alright, this I'm still working on. I tried to get one of my more talented modeling friends to recreate the original, but we haven't really been in contact over the past few weeks, so I have no idea what's going on there. I'd really rather not use the original model: not worth doing if it's going to look horrible, right? I'd like to get a more Halo 2 look to it, make it fit in better, but that's all a matter of some new textures.

So wait, are you recruiting people? There's a forum for that...
Not really. This is an announcement / discussion thread, more to see if anyone is interested in the idea. I don't even plan on starting until I see that I'm not just doing it for my self. No sense spending time on something like this if I'm the only one who will get anything out of it. But hey, if you want to help, sure, let me know.

I was wondering when someone would say I'm either crazy or high...

Why? Seriously, it's not a very big task... Convert a model, throw some points around, build a collision model out of boxes...

If I had ever done any modeling I would probably help you out, but I haven't.

The Draco is the big ship, right? This shouldn't be too hard. I've never really liked "huge" maps with large vehicles, but it could be fun on a big BSP.

Sure. Hit me up if you need any HUD stuff / help setting up the vehicle.
