Modding Competition Discussion

Post by JacksonCougAr »

I have been for a while now seeing a drastic decline in all modding on this board, as well as the Remnantmods boards. I know that there are some very good modders at both websites and that they are very capable of doing some amazing things with the halo games. So I had this idea today that by encouraging friendly competition between the two websites it would encourage members to get together and create some new mods for everyone to enjoy.

I would want the competition to run for a period of 6 weeks from start to finish, and for the final judging to be finished in the two weeks to follow that.

Mods could be submitted in any stage of completion and of any type of modding (eg. Skinnning, Model injections, New Levels created from machines or boxs, or old levels redone to a new theme, anything would be accepted)
Mods would be judged on a range of different category's(these could include for example: Skinning, Gameplay Balance, uniqueness, Theme, or any combination of numerous possible category's).

As of right now this is just in the potential planning stage so nothing is set, and everything right now is up for discussion or change. If you think this might be a fun competition to hold, then please submit a vote to the poll, and make a reply to this thread if you have any ideas for how to make this competition as good as it can be.

It should also be noted that judging would be done by the community, not by a select 'panel' of judges.

Cougar, you would start this just after I started working on my RTS game for school... :|

I probably can't do this, but I'll try to make a weapon mod while modeling and skinning other things.

I'll take the full mod way, (this: I would for sure make at least one completely redone original map with weapons, skins, and vehicles skinned and/or replaced.)

Do not wait custom models from me, I suck at modeling, get DragonFire, he's the uber r00x0rz at models k, k? :D

The competition would be open to all halo games to make it fair, due to halo 2 modding being mostly dead on halomods, and that being the interest group of remnantmods.

I would like to pursue this idea, does anyone have any ideas or thoughts regarding a possible competition for Halo modding?

I'd be willing to submit a full-fledged mod.

I have made all the components of a mod, but I keep having problems at one crucial step.
