Windows 7
Re: Windows 7
It worked perfectly with my webcam without having to install drivers, haven't tried with an ipod though.
Re: Windows 7
iPod Touch works. My brother's installed the proper drivers automatically and it works perfectly.
Re: Windows 7
Lucky him Took me around an hour to get it to work properly. Now that I know what to do it would take me 5 minutes ;p
Re: Windows 7
I want to have this, but I need to know some things.
Can I use this on my PC? Here is my stuff.

Re: Windows 7
I installed it 2 days ago now, and I am GLAD I did, I had an error on my laptop in vista in which I can't delete .exe files, and my wifi card didn't even work in vista! I installed 7 and in 5 minutes I could connect to my neighbours network and delete all installer files that were stray on here.
oh yeah, and the quickness of the boot process is a HUGE plus.

That really doesn't show much...Detchro wrote:I want to have this, but I need to know some things.

What are the technical specifications of your machine?
I've had Windows 7 running on an old Vaio laptop, 512mb RAM, 16mb GFX Card, 1.3GHz single core processor... works fine on that.

Re: Windows 7
Did it work with Aero or did you have to change the style to Windows Classic?
Re: Windows 7
Aero didn't work, it was a 16mb Graphics Card...
I didn't need to use Windows Classic though.

Re: Windows 7
I forgot that there was the basic style. I'm soon to get a cheap laptop, and I found a pretty decent one for $449. Dual Core Processor at 1.8ghz, 2GB DDR2 RAM, 250GB HDD, 15.4" Widescreen 1920x1200 Resolution, and I'm probably going to put Windows 7 on it. It comes with Vista or XP. Does that sound like a good deal?
Re: Windows 7
Out of curiosity, when RC1 comes out, will I be able to upgrade my beta installation with the RC1 without losing all of my files? Will it basically have to be a clean install or can I keep everything?

No...Eaton wrote:Out of curiosity, when RC1 comes out, will I be able to upgrade my beta installation with the RC1 without losing all of my files? Will it basically have to be a clean install or can I keep everything?
You have to format.
That's why it's stupid to use this as a primary OS outside of testing purposes or temp use.
In fact, they warn you of that several times very clearly.
Re: Windows 7
FTP them to your xbox or something. Or use the partition manager in windows 7 to create another partition and move your files to that.
Re: Windows 7
Before I try this I have some quick questions...
1. If I create a new partition in order to dual boot windows 7, will I still be able to use all my programs and access all files that are installed on my C drive?
2. What are the advantages/disadvantages to using Microsoft Virtual PC to install 7? Are there any major differences?
3. Which would you recommend? New partition or Virtual PC?

Re: Windows 7
New partition. It's easy, and simple.
Re: Windows 7
You can access all files with default to just reading and executing abilities. You won't be able to run most applications as they require things in the registry, so you'd need to install them again on Windows 7. A virtual machine allows you to experience it but its slower. I like having the partition myself.
Re: Windows 7
A virtual machine won't allow you to do anything graphics-intensive, as the max available graphics card in Microsoft's Virtual PC is like 16mb and I don't think it's 3D accelerated. I doubt it can even use Aero. Just install it to a new partition.
Re: Windows 7
I wanna try and experiment with installing Windows 7 on a computer with only 256mb of RAM. Don't ask why, because that's not what i'm asking for. I was wondering if anybody knows EXACTLY how this can be accomplished. If anybody knows, please fill me in. I'd appreciate it!
Re: Windows 7
Some guy wrote:One way is installing Windows 7 with 512 mb of ram and then once Windows is installed you can remove the memory leaving into the system only 128 or 256 mb of ram installed.
Re: Windows 7
I read that already. Problem being, it doesn't have the extra RAM regardless. I have SATA and this computer uses EIDE. So I can't just install and put the hdd in this computer. I want to find out how to do this without the extra ram.
