Windows 7

Post by DrXThirst »

Well, Microsoft recently put their beta of "Windows 7" back up with a few bug major bug fixes already. However, the download button doesn't work for most people. So, first you need to go to that site, and go to the bottom and select either 32bit or 64bit (4+GB RAM) and then sign in. They'll give you a license key. Write that down, and then follow one of the links below to download your .ISO to burn to a DVD to install. Here's a link to to the registration page - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/window ... nload.aspx

Downloads:
32-Bit (3 or less GB RAM)
64-bit (4+ GB RAM)

Now, on YouTube, there's an amazing tutorial that a guy put up on how to install Windows 7 after you've completed downloading the ISO. However, his tutorial is for partitioning the HDD while using Vista, not XP. However, Here's a link to that - Click Here for YouTube Tutorial (LOL @ My comment.)

I finished installing this morning. I formatted my entire Hard Drive and installed Windows 7 as the Main (and only) Operating System on my computer. Here's a screenshot of my desktop:

Good luck!

Cool. Have you already downloaded the ISO and burned it to a DVD?

I Already had it activated, and the feedback options and desktop watermarks removed. ohh well, I guess I will reinstall the legitimate way.

IMO its so much better, but I am still not to sure, Once I fill it up with my load of crap and it runs well then ill be impressed.

I'm really liking it so far.

The errors to download the actual thing were pretty stupid. I had to look through the page's code to get the actual link because it kept taking me to some error.

But I'm downloading it now at least.

You don't need to burn it, you can just mount it.
I dual booted at first 2 weeks ago and it was so amazing I decided to just completely upgrade.

Really? I mean, that's cool and all but the only problem is that August 1st, you won't be able to use it anymore. You'll have to go back to Vista or XP.

By then you should be able to upgrade to the full version, or maybe an RC version.

I think I downloaded the 64-bit version on accident. >____>

Oh well, gives me more time to set some things up.

Not enough hard-drive space, would literally take me 3 days to download, and I'm not too fond of downloading operating system betas. I'm planning on getting a new computer this year and I'm going to wait for the official release of this until I get it.

Why can't you just use 64 bit?

They've said many many things. Including 2009 release. Most things are pointing towards 09 though.
I also question your need to have so many OSs but I won't go into it further.

I have been ejoying the beta which I found under a tree for about a week now. The efficiency and usability are great improvements over vista, the former gives better speed and less heat making it more laptop friendly. edit: and going against the critics, I find the new taskbar to be very handy. It nullifies the need for me to have rocketdock or quicklaunch and the preview system is good (much like the stuff from ubuntu)

I have run into a few troubles, shut down can hang and recovering from auto-hibernation can sometimes kill the wireless so that you have to restart (perhaps I should just install my Dell Vista driver instead since it works all the time)

I just hope it doesn't cost incredible amounts of money like Vista does to upgrade.

Yeah, I hope so. I'll probably buy it.

Vista - Came on the computer.
XP (32-bit) - To use my 32bit applications (Entity, AIM Pro, etc.).
Windows 7 - I'd like to try the beta.
Ubuntu - I've been in love ever since I tried it the first time, haha.

Very true, although I'm sure it will knowing Microsoft.

I think its aimed to get released in 09, and by then we should have either another beta we can upgrade too. Yeah I would wait a little before making it my main OS

I'm on holidays, so at the moment, all I require is windows live messenger and flash :P So right now it is my main OS. But I don't think it'll hold up so well when I go back to uni (they find it hard enough to support Vista in classes)

edit: I don't like programs that make their own UI, windows can't perform the snapping features :(

It's an EOY release. (End of the Year)
Downloaded the 32bit version last night, was going at 210kb/s so I was pleased. Still took like 4 hours, heh.

I have about 30GB partition I could install it on but I'm not sure if I want to yet.
