Emblem Discussions
Wait, were these emblems 'handed out', or were they 'earned' automatically?
For anybody still wondering where FTD has gone, here it is.
The medal mod linked is also for phpBB2, which is actually what this site runes. However, that isn't the modification used here, and using that modification would require heavy alterations. I used that particular mod as a base on the old Dimension Gaming boards, and I'd say it would probably be simpler to write one from scratch, adapting the code is going to take just as much time, and is going to give you more issues than if you worked around your intended goal, rather than molding another goal into yours.
It appears the emblems were done automatically. I don't recall the site being up for very long before they were distributed. My guess is the code to assign them was prepared during downtime, and implemented when the site came back. However, that's just a guess.

I wrote this one from scratch (after a year of trying to find someone else to write it for me)...Then wrote it again when we switched to CH...It's a pretty simple mod to write, but I embedded it quite a bit into our code, didn't write an installer or anything, so it would be alot of work to port it over to another forum...WaeV wrote:Where would I get an emblem mod for my phpbb forum?
Best of luck...
I noticed other staff got chevron's for things in which they showed no...for lack of better words, mastery in. But i'm not going to rant about it because that would be ridiculous.Cuda wrote:One thing I never understood also, was how staff got increasing amounts of chevrons IF in fact the Snitch set (if I remember correctly) was about reports.

They were not immediately retroactive. There was a period when people who had done things in the past got the emblems. Someone, at some point, went back and added some that did not initially have them. They were not automated.Cuda wrote:One thing I never understood also, was how staff got increasing amounts of chevrons IF in fact the Snitch set (if I remember correctly) was about reports.
Also, most emblems are distributed by non-staff members, and I'm not entirely sure I see any case, except Iron_Forge, where staff members have any significant emblems they did not earn. I encourage you to point out any such case. Glancing over the few staff members I see here, I can account for all of their emblems with relative ease. It's difficult to award an emblem without just cause, and people have been called out on it on multiple occasions.

I would rather not. That produces finger pointing, unneeded hostility and can make nothing seem like something. It's just a tidbit I noticed, as stated in the past, they are just little pictures, it wouldn't be worth it.Tural wrote:I encourage you to point out any such case.
