Do you mean making new materials?? Im a newb but im psat that part due to luckiness. Follow kirk and open the material editor (the red ball in the upper right hand corner) then click NEW instead of the crap kirk says. You only have 2 selections standard or multi, right now click multi. Then you can follow Kirk to creating a map (i just need to get this welding thing down...)

I kinda got materials to work... but high end uvw mapping has me confused. I can get one polygon (like a map floor) but doing a whole base? once i figure out the systems for the mapping doing things like bump maps or animations become easy, cause all that stuff can be mapped over each other.

Click on the "show material tree" button in the upper right, near the lower right cover of the materail editor view port. It makes things so much clearer by showing the dependencies of all the materials.

Make sure you check ignore backfacing on the seclection screen. That way you only select the polygon you mean to , not the one underneath it.

I think Gmax does not support Multi-subobjects .. but you only really need that if you are using more textures than you have in the material view port. ITs got 25 so unless you building a GOD level .. gmax could handle most of what you need.

How would i go about mapping the same texture to 2 diffrent polygons, each facing say , 90 Degrees of each other? IS there a way to rotate the texture on just one poly gon? maybe an edit uvw map component or somthing?.
