Maybe I'm overanalyzing, but those pods don't look like the HEV pods the ODST's used in Halo 2. They almost look like they have the angular construction of a brute construction.
Whatever, no one has proof of the brutes using pods, so I should just shut up.

But seriously, on the point of it being New Mombasa, there are several indicators of it being totally destroyed.
1. On Delta Halo, whole buildings come through slipspace with the Covenant carrier.
2. At the end of Metropolis, you see high speed winds tossing cars around like toys. Something that strong would have blown out windows, not like the small level of destruction shown in the trailer, IE a few overturned cars, and the buildings in relatively good shape.
3. In Halo 3, on Tsavo Highway, the marines remark about how the stalk of the orbital elevator fell in the New Mombasa Slipspace event. The stalk was thicker than most buildings; I don't think the other buildings would have been in such good shape after something that destructive happened.
4. LESS RELIABLE AS IT IS FROM THE BOOKS AND MIGHT BE OFF A BIT BECAUSE OF "CREATIVE FREEDOM:" In "Ghosts of Onyx," one of the pilots says "The transition's overpressure wave flattened New Mombasa!" Also, this is a quote; it might be exaggerated because of simulated human error/hyperbole.
This just makes me think this takes place somewhere other then New Mombasa.[/quote]
