Where are the cache files stored?

well i think it is in the:
Partition 3/Content/00000000000000...0/4D5307E6/
or
Partition 3/Content/E00001A5FA65D95A/4D5307E6/
but i don't believe it's the latter but i am hunting through the former's smaller file in the sub directories

EDit: vv They aren't

I mean cache files the engine creates, like textures etc. I'm pretty sure those arent on the HDD.

That would be in the RAM, grimdoomer..

And btw halo 2 cache maps couldn't be edit'd because they were replaced upon every start of the game, unlike in halo1 where they were cached to the hard drive once until overwritten by another games cache or running a halo map with alternative build numbers.

in halo 2 caching maps was still important for people who have an xbox 360. even though you couldn't mod the maps, if you cache zanzibar for example, then you could still take the cache_000001.map (the name is an example), put it on your desktop or wherever you want, and then rename it to zanzibar.map

its useful for people like me who do anything permanent to their 360 but still wanted a copy of the old maps

That has no relevance to what this discussion is actually about.

Well, it was actually relevant, I just didn't say why though. :?

I was wondering if anyone has done the same thing that I did with halo 2, in halo 3, to get halo 3 maps on their computer without ripping them off the disc.

RAM is encrypted.

I don't own an Xbox360 nor Halo3 nor do I have much experience with this but is it possible to even access the RAM data?

Only hard way I would know is too freeze the RAM with a cooling solution at runtime and install it somewhere else and make a memory dump :P

So is there a way to directly access it?

Not sure about that, I'm sure someone will respond with an answer though.

To grimdoomer, is it encrypted differently from the way it was in halo 2? If not, then it is possible.

even if you could dump the contents of the RAM, there would be no way of injecting any data due to the heavy encryption microsoft decided to use this time around, i guess we all can learn from our previous mistakes :P
