Electric Guitar

Alright, consider that I know nothing about an electric guitar. Consider that the extent of my knowledge is that it plays music.

So I'm looking for an electric guitar. I've tried the acoustic, didn't work for me. I'm looking to play rock music anyway.

Consider me very beginner. Very beginner.

Would this be sufficient in learning? Like does it contain all the necessities for an electric guitar if I bought it? Or would I have to go buy other stuff? Like, strap, amp, actual guitar, etc. Plus, is the price for it reasonable?

I'm just looking to learn how to play, so if anyone has any suggestions, it'd be appreciated.

Also, I'm a bit embarressed to ask this, but can electric guitar strings break like acoustic's? I ask because I really have no idea about the differences in design between the two.

That guitar pack seems good for a beginner like yourself. And the price is very good aswell.

Electric guitar strings can break. Although some acoustic/spanish guitars have Nylon strings, all electric guitars have metal strings. For this guitar, strings can be easily replaced anyway.

If I had to give you a suggestion, learn how to play that guitar and get accustomed to it. Then get a Better guitar with lower action (Lower space between strings and frets).
It feels great. =D

EDIT: Also, Electric guitars tend to be more 'solid' and heavier than acoustics.
And I think you don't have to put this in the music thread.

Well howdy! I've been playing for about five years now. And my first guitar was an Acoustic. And like you, I hated it. 6 months later I got a Squire Stratocaster.

Yeah, Electric guitar strings can break if there's a lot of wear on them, you bend them to high, etc.

I would actually recommend learning some rock songs on an acoustic. It may be trickier, but that's because you're not hiding behind distortion to cover up your mistakes. So my opinion, stick with the acoustic until you're out of beginner status.

It looks like a good deal, for a beginner guitar. I myself went to Ibanez site and bought there starter kit it had a good XJ7 or something like that, but i mean what that guys is selling is basically what you will get in a beginner/starter pack from any guitar website. Then after you learn you can go and buy either A. an better amp that has distortion tools to make it sound different or buy a better guitar and then wait to buy an new amp.

Edit: if you do buy it i recommend getting new strings because idk how hard you strum but the strings that came with mine always got out of tune because i strung too hard, basically they were weak strings for how i play.

Yeah same thing happened to me, although they didn't stay for too long anyway (they broke after a few weeks, all of them besides high E ).

If you want an Ibanez Guitar, buy the RG 370DX. It's their 'budget' line of guitars, yet it still plays like a £1000 guitar. Also, the floating bridge/locks make it stay in tune for almost forever.

I would get an epiphone instead. For that huge price difference, all you get is slightly better pickups, and "Gibson" written on the head.

O.K, well, so far what I've gathered is that I should play acoustic first, to make learning the electric a whole lot easier.

Regardless, does anyone know of any good starter guitar brands?

I've been told that a squire stratocaster is a good one, an epiphone...

Anyway, I also am looking for a price range under $200. This includes Amp, cord, guitar, etc.

we got this store down near us called costco... its a wholesale store or something... like BJ's if you've ever heard of it... anyways:

they have lots of guitar starter packs (electric guitar, strap, amp, maybe a stand... all included) that cost around $160 dollars, sometimes less, sometimes more...

they are beginner guitars... just what you want

i might be getting a Gibson SG as a present soon, plus the gibson is lighter along with better pickups and the gibson logo just shows its badass... of course i could just scratch out epiphone with a sharpie and write GIBSON in my s***ty handwriting :T

No. I purchased a used Epiphone Les Paul Custom with gold hardware and installed a JB pickup for ~$500. That's better than a Gibson studio or standard.

Oh, and SG necks are ridiculously thick.

i don't think so, i tried one out at a local store and it was thinner than my Squier strat...

Given me nothing but problems. Plus, recently my amp died. Good thing it was cheap. (Well, compare it to other music items, and it's cheap.)

not necessarily, sticking strictly to acoustic will cause you to miss out on learning a lot about the dynamics of playing the electric guitar. I would highly suggest switching back and forth regularly playing a songs across the musical spectrum, like lifehouse or john mayor on the acoustic (which does wonders infront of the ladies!!! =D ) and then play things like disturbed, A7x or whatever on electric so that you get a feel for both instruments. Don't limit yourself to just one, it won't hurt you to try out both, but it WILL harm you if you limit yourself to only one instrument.

EDIT: what kind of music are you planning on playing anyway??
