CE Maps Converted

Post by Roquen »

I have been looking everywhere for converted Extinction and Hugeass but cant find it anywhere.

The download here doesn't work
http://forums.halomods.com/viewtopic.php?t=76756

Is there anyone who has these maps converted or who knows a way to convert them so they are playable on Halo for Mac?

We stopped uploading converted CE maps. Not much reason to anymore because of Harbinger.

Halo doesn't seem to like the maps Exctinction and Hugeass even after I convert them. Is there something I am doing wrong because to my understanding those maps were supposed to be playable on Intel based Macs.

If someone could just post a link to the converted maps it would be greatly appreciated.

I know I've done hugeass before. What are you doing during the converion process? It's normally pretty simple. Target the map, target your maps folder, select what map to convert to and press the button. The only thing to really be careful of is not to touch any of the maps during the process (including the one being written). Also for macs you have to add the .map extension to the end of the file.

Thats exactly what I have been doing! Is there something that has to do with
"Find one" or "Find all". Also as I am aware for Intel macs your not supposed to press "Protect Map". Do I have to use a Multiplayer Map or Singleplayer? Other than all that uncertainty I have been doing everything right.

Unless the map itself is a single player map then you don't want to use the single player option. The only difference between find all and find ones is that find ones is faster, but for some maps that appear corrupted due to bitmap issues find all is the only way to do it. Protect Map is really only there for CE map makers who want to have a protected map and release it to the PC community. There's no benefit to it for normal use and I wouldn't recommend pressing it if you're just converting. Intel macs should be able to play just about anything. Just to clarify, you haven't been touching the map file it creates until it alerts you it's done converting?

No I have not been touching the map at all when it is being converted. I press "Convert", maybe watch a Youtube video, and wait for the "Converted in XX.XX seconds. pop-up. Then I add a .map ending pop it into the Halo maps folder and start it up, but when I load the map Halo crashes.

EDIT: I noticed I had a way older version of Halo should I update it?

That's odd. I've never seen that happen with maps that are known to convert. Here's the two maps you were wondering about. I'd be very interested in a .qpf file (an option in Eschaton) documenting the differences between these and your conversions.

Could this be the problem?

It might be related to it. If the files I uploaded fail to work then that could be the issue. I'm running the universal binary version on my intel mac. It's never really be researched.

Alright I am going to look into it. Do the Universal and PPC come in different packages?

EDIT: The files you uploaded did not work. I am going to update and then try again.

They do come in different boxes. There was a quite re-release of the mac version and the newer ones all had the UB image on it. Various websites still sell the digital upgrade for $5 or something similar. Your CD-key still works but you have to burn a new disc. And they hide the map files within the package contents of the app instead of inside a visible folder.

Ouch 5 bucks for an upgrade? I hope this works.

EDIT: Wait I think I already have the Universal one. Cause I am using Halo on an Intel Mac.

What version does it say on the Halo app? if it says 1.05 or something then you are not using Universal. Also I am the one that did the large CE converted map pack after Harbinger came out, all the maps on that list should work for you including Hugeass and Extinction if you are on intel machine.

How do you tell what version you have?

Also I'm running on an Intel machine so I don't know how I would be running a PPC program.

PPC programs are run automatically using rosetta. A built-in compatibility layer/emulator how ever you want to define it. The difference between the PPC version and the UB version is it's version number when you get info. 1.5 anything is PPC. 2.0 and later is UB. Also, if you don't have to go through the whole show package contents routine to get to your map files then it's the PPC version.

I Finally upgraded to Univeral Binary version. The maps are now working. To my knowledge it seems that most converted maps do not work with PPC (Not upgraded at ALL)

I would like to thank you Altimit01 and bcnipod for all your help!
