remodelling

Post by guysullavin »

i've always wondered what you can actually do to objects to put them for halo PC/mac (if there's a difference) i've heard is all you can do is move vertices and edges and faces around, but i don't know! can someone answer this that isn't a complete n00b

PC: remodel aka moving verts around only.

Mac: either nothing or if you can get it to work custom model importation using OBJConverter. Never had much luck with it meself but I know it's possible.

wel, i tried it out today, but since wings screws up all the .obj files it opens and blender has troubles opening them (all i get is a dot... yea one vert...) but i did manage to edit the ar and then import it, but parts were see-through and only showed an outline, but at least it didn't do the weird lines-all-over-the-place thing...

Don't you have to do something with triangulating the model to import it correctly on macs?

Not sure, but I remember that for some reason.

Well you're always supposed to triangulate. The only reason it's not as common an issue for PC's is that remodeling doesn't change the fact that there's always 3 verts to a face. Halo can only render triangles. The issue with non-showing usually has something to do with faces facing the wrong direction.

Ahhh okays. I knew all of that, I just didn't realise some modeling programs don't automatically make triangles out of polys. Every one that I've worked with does. At least Im pretty sure they do. :?

so that explains the see-throughs? ill try it...

P.S. i've also figured out that if you apply materials to your object (textures, colors, etc...) then thats what starts the whole mess of lines, i think its because halo IS reading them, but they aren't triangles so its screwing up the system.

But thats my theory

EDIT: ok, the triangulating thing is true, if you're under the limit of verts/inds, but if you're already over it, then dont do it, but basically you can just sorta move the verts/sides/faces around, and thats basically all you can do.

I got a model to actually work! (it was done in like 5 mins, so it sucks  , constructive criticism is nice :) i also didn't skin it either so it ripples at some places)

or wheelchair...

but i dont think its THAT bad, at least the skin wasn't too distorted... oh, and the l33t iron sights was actually an accedent, lol

also, for some reason i can only edit the /fp model because of the faces inside out or something, and if i knew how to turn them right-way out then i think i can make some pretty badass models :D
