Movie Thread

Post by Andrew_b »

Earlier today I posted a movie thread. It looked as people were enjoying it, so I leave for a couple of minutes. I come back and the thread is gone. Soon I get this pm from a staff member.
I checked those topics, and I see Tural's point of view, but I dont see how my thread could have ruined any movies. Maybe, if I said, "Share Spoilers of movies," but I did not. I simply said, "Post about movies you have seen, or are yet to see." IE. is it good/bad/etc...

Also, I checked the rules and it said nothing about non-staff posting official posts. If I was more aware of this unwritten rule, I wouldn't have added the word "Official".

So, Here is my question: Did he contact other staff members before deleting my thread?

If so, then alright. But if not, why couldn't you have just had a discussion with other staff members about it?

Thanks.

There has been other movie threads, but they always turn out wrong. If you want to talk about a movie, and it's within two weeks of coming out, make a thread about it.

I'm technically the highest ranking staff member here, along with Kirk, but that's besides the point. Well, not really, it is relevant. A staff member does not need a unanimous decision to take action. My posts were very clear when I made them, and I had discussed it with other staff at the time, and the decision was unchallenged by any of them. Just because you were ignorant to them does not mean they are invalid. They stand, as-is. Also, the "ruining movies" did not mean the plot, it meant it kills discussion when the movie could have its own thread. You missed that point. This is the rule: If a movie is coming out soon, you can make a thread for it. People do not regularly make threads for music, books, whatever, and they never have. Those can have a official thread because that creates discussion. Grouping all movies into one thread takes away movie threads, which are very valid and worthwhile threads. You have no grounds, at all, to make a 'movie thread' because you do not officiate these forums, and you are taking that into your own hands by suggesting all movie discussion goes there. Movies get their own threads, they do. That's the way it is. No general movie thread will be made. I don't have to consult other staff, and they don't have to consult me either. Staff members have autonomy. you have an issue with me, not the site. Furthermore, when I PM you, I expect you to PM me, not go make a thread to complain about it before you even try to ask me.

The decision stands.

Well, could you at least post the rules somewhere instead of people missing them in the rant thread? Not everyone goes and reads all 500 pages.

Why? Nobody tries to make those threads, you're the only one who's done it since I made those posts, and I dealt with it on a case-by-case basis. There is no reason to make a rule about something nobody else does.

Just in case someone does make another movie thread. Instead of quoting yourself, you could link them to the rules. Just seems easier.

The longer rules are the less people are likely to read them.
I'll deal with it on a case-by-case basis.

There have been several threads in the past for general movie discussion and nearly all of them the maker was told to refrain from reposting as there was a rule for single movie threads.
Would it not make more sense to segrement rules into articles such as "general rules" and "forum specific rules"?

There have been two, CabooseJr's and this one, and CabooseJr's set the precedent, so it was made before the rule. Now don't bump old topics.
