Need Beta Testers And A Question

Post by Pepsi »

I need 2 people for a future beta test. I do have some requirements thoe.

1. Must be on a PC not a MAC.

2. Must have a decent card. Example would be 6800 series or higher.

3. Can take screenshots and/or record video.

4. Must be trust worthy and a HaloMod regular. This means you know what your doing and can offer correction input if something is wrong.

5. Must be fluent in HMT, Sparkedit and Ech. PS knowledge is a plus too but not needed.

6. Must have patience of a saint seeing as im working on something bit by bit.

I wont go directly into what im doing but ill say this much. Many people said "FTW made Redux look like crap". What if FTW looked like crap now?

As for my question in this section for modding discussion..

Does anyone know or have figured out how to make active scenery available in online play? This meaning having active scenery in a map and being able to join any lobby server without a exception occurring when the scenery spawns?

Feedback plz on both topics.

I fit most requirements. Not sure about the graphics card, but i can run halo on full with 30 FPS usually. (I'm not on my lappy anymore  [But i can always use that again too])

Also about your question. You may be doing that by just trying it with different tag classes. I'm not exactly sure and my thinking isnt thorough right now because its late :P

I got sad after I read the first bullet. Pepsi, if you need me for anything just give me a shout. I hope this project turns out great for you and does not end like the others. I will PM you a link to something you might find useful, and of-course, good luck on this project.

I can beta test. I don't have Xfire cause it screws up vista too much.

well, i should have cleared up the running halo part up some. You would have to be able to have run FTW with a good frame rate. 'Boose, ill send you a PM when I have a mockup of what im doing. Andrew, thats cool also and read what I said to 'Boose. Spartan, if your getting 60fps on stock Halo your card isnt going to like what im doing. You have to trust me on that. bcnipod, awaiting your PM.

I'm home nearly everyday during the summer, I'm on HaloMods every day. I have a lot of Photoshop skill (Graphic Design student), GeForce 9800 GTX (This thing cuts through UT3, Assassins Creed, Mass Effect, and Crysis like butter), I have XFire, I can use it if you want, Steam or Skype I'm on all the time. I have Full version of Fraps and can take High Resolution screen shots. I also have Vista and XP. So I can test things on both.

Message me on
Skype: sunny_d_anon
Steam: HPDarkness1
Xfire: thedruggedgrunt

I have knowledge in HMT and SparkEdit. Never used Ech, but I'm a fast learner.

I have quite a bit of photoshop knowledge.. as I've been photoshopping for a few years. Pretty fluent with HMT, sparkedit; not Ech though.

I've got a pretty decent card, getting a 9600 or something soon. But for now I have a 7 series 512mb graphics card.

Since I CE mod more then PC, I am not reccomending myself as a beta tester. But I would definately like to know what you have underway (o.O...)
and offer any help.

And uh, as for the scenery; that'd be awesome as hell, and open up so many more options

ill pm some ppl some beta stuff later on when i get somethings finalized. as for the project its nothing seriously big or really groundbreaking. when i took FTW down because of the reasons i stated from that week i did to this current day im getting emails from either youtube or people who do have access to my email account still asking for the mod.

if the truth be told when FTW was released toward then end it was kinda rushed a tad just to get it out cause it was going on for 3 months and didnt want it lingering about. also i knew i had some personal things coming up that were going to need attention and i wouldnt have time to devote to the mod itself. now that things have cooled down some im going to try to open FTW back up and finish where i left off and correct somethings that didnt gel with me on FTW but i let them slide anyways. some of these things are very tiny details but to me they mean the world.

case in point in this would be the shader used in DXTweaker. It was very over contrasted and made things look good but tacky also from my point of view. well the coding for that shader has been tweeked greatly and now provides a better effect. as for the little touches i was speaking of one example would be how the planets are placed in Halo's sky. honestly they just always looked like they were just pasted there in front of the atmosphere the planet your standing on. It just doesnt seem realistic to me nor did it ever. but with some manulpilation i found a way to remedy that as seen in this screenshot here.

Image

to sum it up i guess im going back into FTW and finishing what i began in a sense. I had a decision of either throwing the old FTW back up for people to have or finish it out and complete it totally. I went with completing it. Some of the levels will be redone and some will have things fixed that needed to be done in the first place. heh, i dunno.. just something i felt i needed to do in way. look for a WIP thread sometime when i get some screens worthy of posting and ill make sure i keep thoes interested up to speed on how things are going with screens and vids. reason i say vids is that screenshots cant show off the way things look in game all the time like a vid can.

Interesting Pepsi. I was just starting to think you were actually done here, and then you poke your head in and start up a whole new project. The first FTW was great, and it was a shame you had to leave some things out such as the flying things on DI.

Will you be using the bitmap internalizer as opposed to EOF this time around?

I'll be looking forward to it. I'm sure I'm not the only one. And if you still cant get active scenery to be joiner friendly I'll look and see if I can find any kind of solution (highly unlikely).

Pepsi, I too would like to see some more joiner friendly maps, but not MP, but SP. The mac version of FTW had a number of maps cut because of loading problems. I hope this time it can be resolved.

oh yeah btw that screenshot is very nice, and I agree with you on the planets thing, I have experimented with new planets, and I find the way they are placed is just bad, and you cannot get a really good effect of it being a real planet with the way the bitmaps are setup.

How can you have a joiner friendly SP map? :?

Joiner Friendly refers to that you can join a game or host a game and have other people join without the mod.

All of FTW's map were joiner friendly.

Single Player FTW maps on the mac were not all friendly to load at all.

LOL. I have a better way to make the planets look real. But, yes, that picture does look very nice, but to me it looks like its still an image.
