Halo: The Novel
I just got on the bungie site and noticed that another installment of the novel is coming out. I really want to start reading more often, to get my mind off of things and I think that the novel will be a good place to start. I've heard that the books are 100 times better than the game. So I was wondering, if anyone with experience knows if the books are read-able from the latest book, or if I should start from the first book and work my way up. I know the storyline from the game, but nothing further than that.

I still have not yet finished Contact Harvest. I am by no means a slow reader, I've just had little to no time that coincided with caring enough to be able to read it all.
Everything you'll ever need to know about me.

The first 3 were good. Added new elements, had lots of intereting action. I enjoyed reading them. I thought I wouldn't because its a game spinoff book...
Contact harvest on the other hand did not really interest me too much. It had some insightful information (most notably the reason the whole war started, I didn't know it until then...). I would have thought a story following the caraazy Halo black guy with his one liners would make it a funny yet entertaining read...This book occurs that, so he' boring ;p
Kinda interested in this book, I'll wait for opinions. But if its not available in Australia (like ghosts of onyx), then I'm not gonna buy.
If you are wanting chonological order. I believe its: Contact harvest, fall of reach, the flood, First strike (dunno where ghosts goes ;p)

I've read all of them except for Ghosts of Onyx. Contact: Harvest was really good, (Scotty is all wrong >_>) it made me go "OHSHI-" a couple times from some of the things that happen that have an impact later on. They're all good if you're interested in the story of Halo, or at least, all of them that I've read. I hear Ghosts is good, though.

The ending is pretty good. You should skip to the the last few chapters or something.Kirk wrote:Ghosts of Onyx bored me. I never finished it.

GoO is the best.
First and third need to be read.
GoO is important as well.
CH isn't necessary, but it is good.

GoO takes place during Halo 1-3 (In and around 2552).ScottyGEE wrote:If you are wanting chonological order. I believe its: Contact harvest, fall of reach, the flood, First strike (dunno where ghosts goes ;p)

My favorite (from first to least favorite) Halo novels:
Ghosts of Onyx
First Strike
Fall of Reach
Contact Harvest
The Flood.
They're all good, but the Flood's writing was just blander than the others, and it suffered. It's still good, as it explains a lot not explained in the game.
And in Chronological order, the books are:
Fall of Reach, the Flood, First Strike,
Contact Harvest,
G h o s t s o f O n y x.
This is all on one line. I didn't do line breaks for no reason. Ghosts of Onyx starts a third of the way through Fall of Reach and ends a bit after First Strike. Contact Harvest starts halfway through Fall of Reach and still ends halfway through Fall of Reach.
