Critical Issue!!! Need Help!

Post by Eaton »

Ok, I just started up my laptop, logged in on my user account, and instead of starting up normally with the desktop background and start menu, it opens Windows Explorer to my user account folder right when I log in. I cannot see my taskbar, desktop, folders or anything! What happened!?

Did you happen to do any IP Configuration with your computer? Such as opening your routers ports to host halo games?

No, not at all. I started it about 2 hours ago just fine and I switch users and let my brother go onto his account and it just came to a blank screen. I restarted the computer and not both accounts have the issue.

uh...did you guys do anything important since the last restore point?

If so..just shut down your computer the wrong way...then start it up in safemode. then see what you may find. Then shut it down the right way, and start it normally.

Tried Safe Mode, nothing. Tried unplugging it while it was on, nothing. Tried restarting 3 times... nothing. Ok, this is getting annoying. I sure hope I don't have to restore my OS again.

Your brother sounds alot like my friend. He touched a library computer once and it died :P just by touching it.

Ask your bro what he did.

He did nothing but merely log onto his account. He plays this game called World of Warcraft 7 hours a day, but I don't think that is causing this issue.

I do believe a that fake .CON resigner out there did that exact thing. I remember it doing that on restart.

Try click CTRL ALT DEL and adding a new process called

explorer.exe (or all caps if that doesn't work) maybe that will bring everything back.

maybe not just downloading random files, and run them on a test machine before your own?

Well, this laptop has a really good anti-virus software and I really did not think anything could get through it. I'll be more careful from now on, but now to fix this issue... Is the problem fixed or will I have this problem when I restart again?

Well, I deleted this "suppose" CON Resigner after it would not start. I started a scan so that should detect whatever got in. Wow. This is the first time a virus actually infected my PC...

I hope you are being sarcastic. If it was widely available, I think you know the rest.

Does it happen and you have to keep doing it everytime you start up?

*floats in his virus-free linux bubble*

hmmm... If all that's happening is a folder opens automatically, I don't think it's a virus. A setting might have been jostled the wrong way.
