[W.I.P.]Xbox 360 theme

Post by xbox »

Last Friday I finally got my design premium and decided that my first project would be to re-create the Xbox 360 dashboard. I am creating it in photoshop extended and then bringing it into either flash (Most likely) or dreamweaver where I will put it together into a working website theme.

To enter the site you press the power button:
Image
It's hard to see on the blue background but the ring of light is transparent and the power symbol is there.

Image
Here is the background(1024 x 1024). I have not created the blades yet.
I know about the more opaque line on the top fade away.

Image
And here are the four background colors.

I will update this post with my progress.
Please rate what I have so far.

The edges are a bit rough.

The power button has no anti-aliasing =/
And the dashboard part's edges are very blurry, and kind of not-round.
The gradient on the top and bottom parts is kind of washed out.

Good idea, could use a little work.

Like I said, this is my first project so...
Don't know how to add anti- aliasing.
Image
The blur is from drop shadow and inner glow.
I made the top and bottom fade aways with the polygon select tool.
The fade aways will be redone, but what is a good gradient to match this:

Can't you just use the eyedropper tool on one side of the gradient and again on the other?

Uh, the program should be doing the AA for you. What are you using? Photoshop shouldn't be giving you such aliased results, unless you're using the pencil tool or something..

I was using the circle selection tool.
I have the colors for the gradient, I just don't have the gradient style itself.

Why can I not edit the circle when I use the "normal" circle tool.
I try to select it so I can apply a gradient but it wont let me.

Maybe it's on the wrong type? Change it up at the top. It might be trying to minus that part out, not add that to the selection.

Just make the whole layer a solid color, then in blending options, create the gradient by using the eyedropper tool to get the right colors. The gradient, by default, should be set to Linear, I believe. Click the drop down arrow and select the circle one...it's Circular or Elliptical or something. Then drag it around and mess with the other settings until you get what you want.

Did you try blending options or regular gradient tool?

here is an update on the dashboard
Image
Remember: it looks jagged in this picture because it was scaled down from 1324 x 1024
I figured out the problem and will be starting the power button over in just a minute.

That should not be why it is aliased, unless you resized it in Paint or something. By doing whatever resizing method you used, you make the edges look pretty bad.

I redid you power button. It's aliased, but the ring around the line thing on the power on symbol is a bit off.

I didn't apply anything, I just made it how I would normally. I don't even know how you can make it aliased, because the AA is done on its own.
