Sigh: I give up, its not something you can just point to and say: "Hey look he's a smirking Hobbe so he must be nice" (or whatever my avatar invokes).
I believe simply that over time and with enough use an avatar will affect how people interpret the personality of your posts in general.
If a user had a frowning avatar and said: "This is gay(happy)", you would assume he meant it in a very negative way.
If another user had a grinning avatar you might instead
If you don't believe me just take more notice on how you interpret peoples posts in correspondence to their avatars.
The anti-homo? filters are getting old --_--
Do not post blatantly inappropriate and derogatory content.

Honestly this thread confuses me to the extent which no other thread has.
How does our avatar define us in anyway.... People do not see Tural's Icon and say... "Hey, he must post like people who fight in dark dungeons in the pits of hell for a living..."
Its more like...
"Hey he likes MK"
And honestly if you are taking people avatars and linking them to people posting personality's.... The thought just saddens me.

Not removing this 'till I get back. Leaving on [01/05/09]

People look at my posts and are reminded about how kool I am because of my avatar. The only thing that is classier is the monopoly guy. And Chad has that taken.
But really, ScottyGEE is with Tural in that its a visual identifier. It allows me to skip posts from people I know don't say things I wanna read. The time when that was hard when Ketchup when crazy and put his silly face on everyone's profile
edit: and yes I get what he means. That it plays a role in how you interpret the posts. However I don't really feel the same.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but it sounds like you're saying the same thing there.JacksonCougAr wrote:Its not like I look at the avatar and say, he must be posting angrily because his avatar is angry! I am saying that we just notice these things and it affects the way we view a post.

Isn't that identical? It seems to me like all you're changing is the intensity of your statement. Seeing someone's posts as being in angry tone because of an angry-seeming avatar is an example of an avatar "affecting the way we view a post."he must be posting angrily because his avatar is angry!

That is true: I am not trying to say that the avatar is the 'be all and end all' of how people view a posts 'tone' or personality. I am suggesting that its an insidious affect, that builds up over time (although in some cases right away). It's all relative.shadowkhas wrote:I don't know, maybe it's just me, but it sounds like you're saying the same thing there.JacksonCougAr wrote:Its not like I look at the avatar and say, he must be posting angrily because his avatar is angry! Okay. I don't see the point of this topic, though. Woo, people have an avatar that may or may not correlate to their posting style. Cool.JacksonCougAr wrote:That is true: I am not trying to say that the avatar is the 'be all and end all' of how people view a posts 'tone' or personality.
