According to the Wine HQ AppDB it should run and is in fact a "Gold" rated program, meaning it should be easy to install and use.GametagAeonFlux wrote:I dunno if Zbrush 3 is compatible with Linux, Google search doesn't provide much information...but from what I can tell, it isn't.
After reviewing the AppDB, it seems 3ds Max may install and run, but it's far from a Gold rating. I should try my installer again...

What're the apostrophes supposed to mean? The database was backed up before the move, which Gren posted about on the main page.Aumaan Anubis wrote:The downtime of HaloMods 'required' that recent posts be deleted.
But that means no silly banter between FAB and Tural.

Bah, good riddance. It was fairly useless anyway, as it turns out 3ds Max is supposed to run fairly well, I'll get back to you after I get it the Max 8 demo installed on my XP machine and finish copying files over (installer is... buggy) - never mind the demo part, apparently my license server is still installed even after someone *deleted* all of the 3ds max stuff (they didn't even bother to uninstall, they just... deleted the folder contents - this wasn't me)shadowkhas wrote:What're the apostrophes supposed to mean? It's to show that 'required' probably wasn't the best word, but it still fit.shadowkhas wrote:What're the apostrophes supposed to mean? It is expected, and demanded.Tural wrote:MrMurder, we're going to hold you to that promise.

does anybody hear have an intel sound card or know how to fix sound for it. When i first install kubuntu on my laptop it thought the modem was the sound card so when i slided volume up and down it was the modem. then when i tried to fix it it just can't find the sound card. I looked in the help on buntu forums but the thread i found didn't work. If anyone knows or has a link that would be great

Here I come again to post in the most delightful and delicious of ways.
[walloftext]
Linux has come a long way since I started using it 4 years ago. Back in 2004, I read a lot of things, and many tutorials. I remember recompiling the kernel on SuSE 9.1 to get ndiswrapper to run and modprobing and... you get the picture.
By SuSE 10.2 the driver unwrapper was working quite well, and I had way fewer headaches. It was not ready yet, however. Few things were missing to complete the experience
In late 2006 my laptop went full linux, when I purchased an atheros chipset wireless card that "just worked" on Kubuntu. That was a sweet day, when I made room on it's 60GB HDD for a full install with 20odd GB of music. I still have that laptop, and loved that I got 6 hours of battery life (somehow) instead of the measly 2 that I got with XP. I blame processor downscaling from 1300mhz to 600mhz. Anyways, Linux as an OS has finally come to be ready thanks to the work of Ubuntu, and SuSE before it, and Mandrake before it. The latter two were close in terms of usability, but were not there.
Ubuntu is what made it ready. Linux skipped the desktop and went directly to the portable. IMHO, What really brought linux into the mainstream were Ubuntu, Dell, Asus, and the OLPC project. Dell started selling and supporting Ubuntu Based PC's. Asus with the EEE and OLPC. The latter two showed that you dnn't need to have 5.7Ghz Processors with 4GB of ram to have a usable system. The EEE especially showed this. 75% People want to check their email and write letters to their friends. The EEE hit this niche.
[/endwalloftext]
The future is NOW.
If anyone else wants some more opinionated posts, please ask...
And feel free to correct me if need be. It's late and my mind wanders when it is.

Great post there! I haven't personally been using linux that long, but it took me a couple of distros before I found one I liked as well.
I wonder if there's some kind of line graph out there with the percentages of linux users to windows and mac users...
On a side note, I found this pretty interesting:

19 distros before 2000, 61 at the end of '06

speaking of linux, i'm gonna reinstall on my laptop. i had a problem with startx which i tried fixing by changing the window manager. didn't work, but i figured it out. but then i find out my menus were gone, and since backtrack comes with a bunch of security tools, my lost+found menu option is gigantic. instead of going through the hassle of redoing the menus, i think i'll just reinstall a different distro and learn about program installation since i'm going to be doing a lot of it. i'm talking to a friend now about it, but if anyone here would like to throw in their 2 cents about fedora/slackware, go ahead.

That one is old. Though it hasn't been updated recently, there were a few updates since the one you linked to. GNU/Linux Timeline 7.6.WaeV wrote:On a side note, I found this pretty interesting:
