MOTM
MOTM
Lately, this forum hasn't been producing much. Sure there's the Halo 3 development going on and everything.. But that's only not even a handful of people.
Before I cut to the chase, I'd like to add that I'm not suggesting this so I could get in a chance at winning an emblem. I don't care about that. But what I do care about is lately, as I had previously stated, this forum is kind of on hold, and a lot of people are kind of on the edge of their seat due to the recent news of the possible closing of the forums.
Now, to the point.
I was recently digging around at some older stuff, when I remembered this site had a 'Mod of the Month' competition. I also remembered how popular it was for Halo PC at least. I don't recall how popular anything was for Halo 2 as I wasn't involved in Halo 2 back then, but I'm sure it got it's fair share of interest. This suggestion is open to both areas of interest.
What I'm suggesting is, rather than having once competition per-game, just combine it in a sense. Have 2 winners, one for Halo PC and one for Halo 2.
I am aware of the recent inactivity of Halo 2 modding, however, I know there's enough people who mod that we could get a nice competition out of it. And as for Halo PC, it's not exactly dead anymore. It's more active than Halo 2 is.
I would understand if there was no interest in bringing back some of the things that sparked activity in modding. This is a Halo modding forum, and recently, everyone's really just modding for their own sake. I'm not implying that we should be modding to get social recognition, I'm merely saying, it would just be fun, and maybe even motivate some people to re-open their programs and get back at it.
If there's a problem with organization, I would happily take responsibility for it if necessary. Me or someone else would do fine. You may be thinking "Well why don't you just set it up yourself rather than posting this in the complaints and suggestions forum?". It's a simple answer really, there would be more interest if the competition had the support of Halomods behind it.
What if the competition doesn't go very well?
Well, it would be clear that there is no public interest in it, and no harm done. I personally don't think it would hurt to try.

Anyone can create a competition on these forums, it doesn't need staff approval, plus they're all evil people who were assigned to restrict modding and creativity of course so you won't get approval from them anyway But you posted this thread not so much for approval by staff but more for other people to give their support (which is said in your post anyway ) so my above point is kinda mute anyway.
I'm all for seeing more competitions and motivation around here, and I wish I could participate in these kind of things but its too hard for me to do so now. Unfortunately the organisation behind the competitions requires a fair bit of effort, especially if you want it to be fair unbiased and fun for all (the other competitions essentially died due to the lack of the above or at least perceived lack of the above) and that will probably be the hard part of getting this competition running, that is if you get enough support to do it.
Plus, its a way for people to GET TEH EMBLEMZ!, which actually does motivate. It will also make the winners ladies-men, reach a higher IQ and become richer than Bill Gates (Just look at me or Forge, we're perfect because of it I'm kidding, don't think I'm arrogant )
But if you're wanting a small insight on what/how you could possibly go about doing it for halo 2, i tried organising it before halo 3 came out, it could be of use possibly (don't laugh at my drawings from then >_>). By that I mean you could see what people want in a MOTM competition, that is if they actually say that...I can't remember.

I don't really know where I'm going with the above, except that its probably going to be hard and I'm thinking it won't happen, despite it being a good motivator, but I wish you good luck on it and hopefully it can happen.
edit: OSHI, linked the wrong thread...

That's the one I meant for you to read Sorry.

Scotty... I read every post in that first link you gave me -_-
Onto the next link!
Well, from reading those, it's pretty clear what the majority of the community wants, which is creative freedom. Maybe throw in a theme a few times to mix it up a bit.
As for the bias issue, so far, I'm not wanting a 'judge' system. Mostly because if it's a community competition, the winner of the competition should be decided by the community by popular vote. There is always the issue of people getting their internet buddies to vote for them, but there's really no way of avoiding that ;p
For the issue of this not happening, or getting staff approval (it would be more of an eye catcher if it were official), it may not. Well, it may not have the support of Halomods staff, either way, I would like to organize such a competition. Like I said, the only issue is getting people interested. Emblems would be an awesome motivation to get people to enter, as there's always a craze for emblems. If not emblems, I'd have to think of something else that may motivate people.
This is really just for fun in any case. I would just like to see this site a little more active in the cause of it's name.

I'm with you on this one JK. Actually I would love to help get this rolling and even be a part of it. I've been trying to get back into modding but just haven't gotten around to it. Regarless, I'd like to help set this up and run it with you. I think it would be fun and something that may breath life into Halo2 modding and/or Halo PC modding.
If you decide to get this going, PM me with details and anything related. I really would like to help and see what can be done!
Actually, if you need help with ideas let me know. I'm down.

As I had stated, I was just seeing if maybe there would be a Halomods MOTM. That would definitely gain more interest than a users MOTM.RaVNzCRoFT wrote:Yeah, people don't realize that anyone on the forum can feel free to create a monthly modding contest.
But I've got an idea going. Kibito, once I get the time I'll PM you.
I highly support this idea. Other modding forums have it, why don't we? Also, what platform(s) would it be for?
For anybody still wondering where FTD has gone, here it is.

I think that a mod competition would be nice, especially since a lot of other sites have them. I think you should definitely go for it and try and get this running. And personally i think that people would nessecarily care MORE if it was an official mod contest, though I certainly think that it might help.
Actually, making it basically for all platforms would be a awesome idea. I got your PM JK and i'm thinking of what could be done about prizes and such since that seems to be a small dilemma. I have an idea though...not sure if it'll go through but I can try.
The all platforms idea though...what would you do between CE/PC? Make it one in the same or seperate them? I have more ideas and such but when I can get the time i'll PM you back with more details and thoughts.

CE and PC will be the same, due to the fact that with a single click, they can convert CE content to PC.kibito87 wrote: The all platforms idea though...what would you do between CE/PC? That's not a bad idea. If enough people are willing, I don't see why not. Otherwise, we'll just do it the old fashion way.ScottyGEE wrote:Before the voting stage, you should check to see if people are willing to play it together and judge from that That'd be kool.
Provided I wouldn't lag out, I'd totally be there...With "please ban me" on
Go to your room and don't come out until you've learned that what you did was wrong.Kirk wrote:It'd give a better representation of the mod as well, I can never tell if a mod is good or not from pictures (or even videos, most of the time), and I really doubt most of the people that vote normally have ever even played the map (I never did, heh)
But yeah I meant it was an optional thing to setup so people can have an educated vote, plus its a way to play with fellow Halomodonians
Makes sense
If anyone else has any suggestions on prizes, that would be cool. I was thinking a 360 game or something.. But not everyone has a 360.
I think I got it. I'll just send someone an Amazon gift card for maybe... 50$ or so. Then you don't have to worry about sending me your personal information :p
