I hope that wasn't serious. I'm not trying to start an issue here or anything, but I'm just wondering if he was actually banned.

Dalek was banned for a reason entirely unrelated to this thread, or any thread, for that matter.

That's why you have a backup switch.

But the robots thought of that, so they went back in time to stop switches from being made, thus preventing the future from using them!

Just make it so the robot's powered by a plug. If the robot goes haywire, yank the plug. :D

Just the thought of robots, or, 'a machine', being overlord over us is weird. But I doubt it will happen. But it might happen. You never know. But just in case, we need to build an under-ground rebel colony, and have everyone help. We'll live off of gophers and under-ground animals.

For example the Skynet thing. All technical and shit. If it does somehow get a mind of it's own, and starts to attack unassigned targets, I say one giant Red Old Fashioned Knife Switch would do.

Matthew Broderick would convince it to play tic-tac-toe to confuse it.

And if it is a Proper Mechanized global takeover, it needs an ominous HAL 9000 Eye-Like object.

i, personally, can't wait until there's safe, high-quality implants to do things like increase memory capacity, or other neat things like that. just think how awesome it would be to have a device implanted in your brain that you control like it's simply part of you. for example, i could use it to grab RSS feeds over my home wifi, or open wifi spots if i'm walking around. I'd be able to get alerted with the latest headlines instantly. or maybe use it to stream music from the internet, or my home pc. it could be my own personal mp3 player, except i control it with my mind.

the biggest obstacle for things like that would probably be the interface. the device would not only have to take input directly from the brain, but also figure out how to get it's output correctly interpreted by the brain. hopefully the end product will be thinking of a song and hearing it in your head, something so transparent you don't realize it's a chip in your brain.

but about the possible robot takeover, it sure would be exciting, but no way it'll happen. worst-case is a robotic weapon going haywire and kiling someone, which has actually already happened...

OH SHI-
ASPARTAME: in your diet soda and artificial sweeteners. also, it's obviously completely safe. it's not like it will cause tumors or anything. >.>
