End of HaloMods?
BTW if you looked at unlimited site it has its own dedicated server. I have 68 gigs on my site so size isnt a issue. I dont have issues with my site and like i said it comes with 1 teribyte of bandwidth a month allowed, Plus 1 teribyte of space for the site on the server.

Again, their site is horrible. It is an eyesore, it's obnoxious, and their information is not presented in an organized manner that most efficiently communicates that information. There is no incentive to respect that site, as they have proven themselves incapable of appealing to a legitimate, large-scale, professional consumer. It's like a TV infomercial flashing free offers, money cuts, and big red text in your face all the freaking time.Matooba wrote:BTW if you looked at unlimited site it has its own dedicated server.

Yes.
As of right now, all we're doing is waiting for word on advances with the legitimate offers. There is no need to post other suggestions and whatnot, unless you have some overwhelmingly awesome idea that consists of legitimate reasons and evidence, which very few so far have. You're free to post your comments, but there have been two large arguments stemming from various comments which didn't have any importance to the situation, so let's try to avoid it on this, the third time.
tl;dr: Wait for news.

Just to put some things in perspective...Free hosting could never ever work...Any vhosted server (which is what you get for anything less than $50/month) also would never handle a site like this...The site needs lots of CPU, lots of ram, and a nice wide pipe...Everything else is pointless...
Drive space is cheap...Pretty much any server would have enough to handle the site...But there's a huge difference between a 7200 SATA drive, and a 15K SAS drive...15K SAS drive would be vastly superior for halomods...Your vhosted server isn't going to have anything near this...
Bandwidth is cheap...Pretty much any hosting package offers plenty these days...Throughput on the otherhand isn't...My DSL connection can move over 1TB a month, but that doesn't mean I could handle uploading a new mod to 20 people at a 200K/s at the same time...$10/mo hosting that gives you 500TB traffic isn't any different than $10/mo hosting that gives you 1TB traffic...I can guarentee you'll never hit either on the server...But bigger numbers, 9/10 people would go for the 500TB hosting company...It's marketing...
CPU isn't cheap...Find a dedicated server that has a CPU like this server (Intel Xeon 3060 Dual Core Conroe), but only offers 500G/mo. transfer...Won't happen, because they know bandwidth is cheap, and you can toss around giant numbers no one will ever hit, then claim thats what they're charging for, not the CPU they're giving you...I see lots of dedicated servers that could handle HM in terms of bandwidth, but only have celeron CPU's...What a joke...
Memory isn't cheap either...That 2GB is pretty much gobbled up, and then some...SAS drives would of course greatly help in this area for swap...
So to answer your suggestions on free hosting, it won't work...

870 MB is nothing for a site this big. I have seen sites with over 2 gigs. So yeah 870 is small compared to some other sites.
Also, my site has the same host as High Impact Halo. You cant get much better then that. Support is awesome. The host can pretty much add any hardware to the server you want. And it is cheaper then most other hosts. For any of you that visit HIH, the owner of the hosting company is Shdw Shinobi. He is an admin at HIH. And yes the company is legit. I just refered someone to Shdw and that guy is buying a dedicated sever and Shdw is customizing it however the guy wants. I believe the guy is getting atleast 4 gigs of memory. It may be more. His site is actually the one that has a 2 gig Database.
Again, Shdw is the way to go. Thats all I have to say.
If anyone is interested in checking out his company's site, then just say and I will link you.

Indeed, 800-some-odd MB is a fitting size for a forum database. Keep in mind that posts average about 1KB (ranging from the utterly massive 2-3KB ones that people like I_F post, to the dinky little 1-liners that you normally see), and at 756502 posts as of my typing this, that's a whopping ~740 MB according to Google's wonderful little calculator. Plus topic information, signatures, and everything else, it gets pretty big.
Everything you'll ever need to know about me.
Need help with Linux, C#, C, Python, Java, PHP, Javascript, CSS, or VB? I'm available from 3:00PM-8:00PM EST on weekdays.

look guys , i do not post here much but listen in, there's a way grenadiac can keep this site up and running but i guess he'll want all yall to donate a lil something there are to things i would recommend. 2000 members of halomods donating $55 to grenadiac and so he can buy his own server and the bandwidth for it. $55 is not much but if enough people donate he can host his own site for maybe $70 a month for a business bandwidth internet server that is not including electricity costs , i would suggest him getting with the donated money (4 Xserves) each with 8 3.0 ghz cores , 32 GB ram and 3TB hard drive space and he'll have a couple grand left over to pay bandwidth and electricity for 2-3 more years?
there are 10 types of people in this world those who understand binary and those who do not.
