Hallo mein freunde! (Hello my friends) Does anyone here live in Germany? I have a favor to ask of you.

Also out of curiosity, Hows it like living over there?

I lived in SouthAmerica/Mexico for about 1 year, in USA for 4 years and Germany the rest...

If you have any specific questions go ahead and ask (doesn't matter what language xD)...I'll try to answer them as best as possible.

Well I don't need to ask for the favor anymore. So instead, how's it like over there? I'm studying WWI and WWII so I wanted to know how Germany has been since the last WW.

Since this is the generation where most of the people die that actually experienced the Holocaust (like my grandparents...both dead) they try to keep records of them for future reference. We get influenced by it every year through television, school...we are already tired of hearing it.

Some school force each class to go once to one of those concentration camps.

Nazism pretty much died out, even the other extreme social groups like punks...or whatever are against any type of racism.

On the contrary...the conservative parties like CDU (Christliche Demokratische Union...christen democratic union) are losing power and the social (left) parties like SPD (Soziale Partei Deutschland's...Social Party of Germany) and Die Linke (=The Left) are gaining more power. Which is not always a good thing...especially with such a social community/system like in Germany.

My brother has traveled to Europe twice now. He said Germany was probably one of his favorite places, and practically based his second trip on it.

A lot of people in America really stereotype germans with being nazi's...
That gets really annoying.

My father and his whole side of the family emigrated from Germany. He moved over when he was about six, so he speaks German... like a six year old... To be honest I know very little about my grandparents' intense experiences, for my grandfather is dead, and my grandma doesn't like to talk about it. She is German to the core. She was born in germany in the early 1920's, and the town she was born in, as of the end of WWII, is now Poland. If you bring up the fact that she could in any way be considered Polish, she will smack you. Whenever her experiences in Germany are brought up, she usually talks for one or two minutes before slipping into German (which I don't speak), making it hard to know what really happened, although what my sister and I have gathered is quite an amazing story (riding atop a train for 3 days in wedding dress, playing dead in a stack of bodies, crawling through a hole in a wall and escaping from soldiers, etc.). My aunt to this day holds a grudge against my grandmother because she (as a teen) was left there alone for six years when the rest o the family left. They now live together (happy times

). Having grown up in such a household, I would also like to know how well Germany is doing now. It's good to know that students are being taught what happened and how to avoid it in the future. In the US, WWII and the holocaust are stressed in students minds and students are encouraged to ponder all aspects of how it happened, so as to avoid similar situations. So yes, I would just like to know how daily life is like in modern Germany, and I hope to one day visit (I still have family there, who we have never contacted).

My great grandfather was from Germany, I believe. Or his father. One of the two.
