So? That's a legitimate concern, and it could likely have been triggered by playing the game. They aren't scapegoating it, it's actually the issue...

That just proves how great of a game it is :P

But seriously, that pretty much sucks. Hope they find him.

EDIT: Tural's right, it could very well have been the cause of him leaving, they're not just jumping to conclusions.

I'll have to agree with Tural on this one. So what if it was the game that triggered him to leave home? The game did not give him any injuries, nor did it decapitate his best friend. I am more saddened by that, than by the fact that a game caused this.
For anybody still wondering where FTD has gone, here it is.

Indeed. It deals with modern warfare in the Middle East (somewhat, at least), which is where he was stationed. There's been plenty of other war veterans that have had flashbacks and acted as though they were in the war again or other things we may view as irrational.

on the foxnews website it showed a picture of the call of duty 3 case not 4 but that might have been just an error on their part

Title edited for clarity. -GTAF

Extremely sarcastic...Fox often exaggerates their stories or creates false information to make a larger impact. Granted this is just a simple mistake however. :P

Or not. This is not what he fights for. His focus is on children and video games.

He wouldn't say, "If a grown man can be affected by videogames, what is stopping a child"?

This particular case is in no way linked to the effect of video games in children. The same thing happening to a kid is impossible, since they don't experience war.

Children generally don't have combat-induced post traumatic stress disorder.

Jack bases his claims on nothing.
There is no correlation between this and videogames.

Hmm...

There is a correlation between this and video games though. There's usually some form of imagery that triggers flashbacks, this particular individual's just happened to be video games (assuming the article/story is correct).

Well it was videogames that did it, but it seems more that it was the war themes that contributed to his actions.

You're very bent on twisting your point to be valid, aren't you? This is a proven condition that occurs a lot, post traumatic stress disorder. The game likely triggered the behavior because of its content. I don't see what point you're trying to make here anymore. Jack Thompson has no part in this discussion, and you're just jumping on the "omg jck r teh sux" bandwagon by posting such a comment. You clearly are unaware of the basis of his claims, and you are unaware of his stance on such issues. Now cease your baseless argument, as it is accomplishing nothing.

ANYTHING can set off a vet into a flashback. He would have been walking downtown and heard the backfire from a car. Thunder can hit close to a vet's house making them think they're reliving an IED attack. You can't help how your brain deals with traumatic events or how it tries to solve surviving what it thinks another event just like a past one (ie the car's backfire sounding like a gun shot).

I think the real moral of this story is to not play violent war games when you are recovering from a traumatic war event. Especially if you saw your best friend die because of it.
