I stopped doing name changes a bit ago. In all honestly I don't see what the problem is changing names every once in awhile, as long as it's not the same guy changing his name every few days. But people complain, so I stop.Cryticfarm wrote:I somewhat got my name changed. I got the first letter capitalized.
Change my Name
Reason enough to stop. Complaining shouldn't be rewarded. It's unfortunate but if that's what has to be done.Kirk wrote:I stopped doing name changes a bit ago. Plus, Iron_Forge straight told me no so...I'm giving word from the head honcho.
Pretty sure he's talking about Iron_Forge...kibito87 wrote:Reason enough to stop. Complaining shouldn't be rewarded. It's unfortunate but if that's what has to be done.

It's pretty simple really...Users and staff get to know a user by "abc"...The user then requests to be know by "xyz", and it's granted by the powers that be...The person who did the name change is the only one who realizes this was done, regardless of any posts made, user notes added, etc...No one has time to read them all...This gives them a clean slate to earn a new reputation, for good or bad...
I don't read every post on every forum...But if I notice that "abc" is an idiot, trying the limits of what is and isn't tolerated, and needs to be watched, I'm not going to realize that "abc" just went away, and is now posting under "xyz"...The same goes in reverse...If I know "abc" is a great user, and needs to be watched to make sure they are as great as I think they are and think of them when someone great is needed, I'm not going to realize they're now "xyz", and didn't just vanish...
I don't see the point in making exceptions to this rule...I also can't stop people from making a new account...But in doing so, you give up all ties, be it posts, emblems, PMs, etc. as your old account fades into obscurity...If you don't like your alias, it's up to you to change it, with all that implies, not the staff...

I'm going to have to disagree.
Now, this is simply my opinion, and I feel I have every right to say it. Making a new account just seems a lot worse than changing a name. When you change your name, you actually can keep track of this person far better than making a new account. It's better for the user, it's better for the staff, it's better all around. The user can keep his well-earned work. The staff can put a notice in his user notes of the change, and if his postings are questioned, it's easy just to look at previous posts by him, and check his user notes to see if his name is changed. Overuse of name changes can also be checked by this. If you see his name has been changed recently, or at all depending on how you want to do this, then you can deny their request.
The same is not true for if the person made a new account. His IP could be changed, email, everything. There's no way of knowing if this person is the same person or not, simply because you wouldn't expect it. If a bad guy comes along and makes a new account and starts acting nice, well, good for him! Let him be nice, I see nothing wrong with that. If he acts bad, well, it's a ban for him.
The fact of the matter is, if a user acts bad, he's bad. His past is irrelevant. Usually people know when someone has had their name changed. People that frequent the site do realize the change, so if you have questions, just ask someone. It's what I have to do when I have questions like that. Besides, if you were keeping tabs on somebody because you thought they were doing good, they should be standing out like a sore thumb and easy to spot. If not, maybe they weren't so great after all. Sure there are downsides, but when isn't there.
So why not? Laziness of the staff? Can't people just be nice for once and realize there's really nothing wrong with it? It's not as if you can't check their record and see how they were doing. It's not like people want name changes every day, you asked for the position, I think you can do a little work investigating. We as staff are here for the people any way..
People have had their name changed in the past, and there really hasn't been any problems. There are easily foreseen issues such as mass name changes, but a simple "not now, later" will suffice to avoid the confusion and allow peoples name changes to spread out over a period of time, but this is really sort of irrelevant as not as many people want their name changed as you'd think...

Moderators can't change names.latinomodder wrote:Talking about biased moderators, I suggested the idea as soon I saw Radolla (formerly T_omg), and Darkshallfall change their names...
Ragdoll and Dark's names were changed before Iron_Forge publicly stated that no names changes were allowed. It has been acknowledged that changes have been made, but they should not have been, and should not continue to be. There is no bias, you just picked the wrong time.
That's why they occurred, and, as stated several times, they should not have. You posted the reasoning for the situation in the same post as the situation itself. You answered your own question, essentially.latinomodder wrote:and this was pretty recent, I'm pretty sure I_F wasn't aware of this....
The point is, no name changes are allowed.
I really don't understand why they don't change it. It is legal you can go to a judge and get your name changed if you want. It is not like everyday somebody is asking for a name changed. I say it is a legitimate reason change the name, I bet if you were to do this in front of a judge he would understand and approve of the name change. But I am no staff or admin so yeah. They do what they want I guess.
This isn't a court of law, and it happens too often. Often enough that it should not be allowed. It isn't one or two people asking once every few months. It's several people over the course of a few weeks.
You picked a name, stick with it. If you want a new name so bad, sacrifice your old account and get one. You decide what's more important to you.

But who gets to decide if it's legitimate or not?..Who gets to complain that so and so got their name changed, and your reason is similar, but yours was denied?..Keablr wrote:Well like I said if it is a legitimate reason it should be reason enough to be changed. If it is not a legitimate reason simply say no.
My life is just easier this way...And my life being easy is all that matters... ;o)
