[PC Easy] Unlocking new assault rifle animation

Figured I'd write a tutorial on how to do this since it's easy and gives good results. I told pepsi how to do it last night and he tested it for me. turns out it causes a little inconsistency when joining maps, but for regular mods and especially SP this should be fun. :wink:

How to do it:
1. Open up a map in HMT
2. Extract the antr tag for the assault rifle fp
3. Open the tag in any hex editor
4. Go to the offset 'B7'
5. you will see 03 00. change that to 0B 00 (that's right, you only edit one nibble :P )
6. Save and inject the meta back using HMT.
7. Test it out in game, there will be a brand new assault rifle melee animation. Instead of swinging forward with the butt of the rifle, master chief hoists the gun upwards then smashed it forwards. edit: vid: http://youtube.com/watch?v=JZKFR1NQcVw

Perhaps I will write an HMT plugin that will do this for you... but it's Christmas and I'm lazy so right now you can do it yourself, It's just one nibble! 8)

Already got the antr plugin made leo ;)
But nice tutorial in anycase :P

I sort of figured, which is why i didn't bother... That's why I don't really make plugins, because you've pretty much ported guerrilla. Any time I released a plugin you'd be like:

nice, but i already made that exact plugin... twice :shock:
I made it, hit my head and got amnesia, relearned how to mod and did it again... pwned... (and then I made it a third time just because I was really bored)

All I got was the Assault Rifle dissapearing. Must not have done it right... or it could be that I used the A10 animation. :P

does this work for other weapons as well, or only the AR? And someone mentioned the word stealth melee, does this mean that each gun has another secondary melee to it?

I don't know. Have a look at the animation trigger tags in HMT. They'll tell you. :P

How about the fp.antr.meta file? I need it for my Halo 3 for PC Mod. :P

the fp.antr and fp.antr.meta are the same thing just with different extensions, all it is is the meta being extracted to a file. in fact, lets take that into consideration and make a faster method... open a hex calcuator. find your ar fp antr tag. copy its meta. go to your calculator and add B6 to the meta. open the map in a hex editor and go to that offset. change it to 0B. that's it (that way is faster than the one in my original post)

Have you tried reinstalling FRAPS? What about CamStudio?
