I need network help

Post by uralllame »

A couple of days ago, my compuer decided that its about time to break, so the network connection dropped, and I got a message saying "A network cable is unplugged." So, I checked the connections, they were all good but I still got the error. Swapped ethernet cables, still error, so I turned to the interwebs.

After some searching, I made sure that the network controller (nForce Networking Controller, inbuilt so I can't replace it easily) could not be turned off to save power, still nothing. Then I tried looking at the speed/duplex settings. I can only get it working again by setting this to force or autonegotiate 10Mbps Full or half duplex, instead of the 100mbps it was running at earlier. All of the other computers in the house are still fine.

Normally, this would not be a problem. I'm not a LAN party goer toer, and my internet connection is so slow I might as well burn the files to a DVD and mail it to the destination. However, earlier today, my Dad came in and was like: "Lol internet! We can has faster connekshuns!". Now this faster internet is going to be pretty useless if my network adapter isnt working properly.

Halp pleez?

If it's integrated into your computer then there isn't a whole lot you can do about it. You can go out and buy another ethernet card and install that. Or you could setup your computer to use the USB port on the modem to connect to the internet.

Awhile back I had a laptop that it's ethernet card just shit out on me and I had no choice but to use an ethernet port to surf the internet. My gf went and bought me something just like this. They're pricing isn't bad and they work well.
