Presidential Candidates

Post by Evan »

First things first. This could end up being a very bad idea to start this thread, so I would like to start by saying a few things to keep it "lock free".

1.) If at all possible I would like to ask of every to refrain from flaming anyone else for their choice in politics.

2.) If you are from another country besides the U.S. we could do without posts like "Not my country I don't care" or useless posts of that nature if you were thinking about posting one. Not saying that you were.

3.) If you are from another country your input is welcomed also.

4.) No U.S. hate speeches are welcomed in the thread.

5.) Polite discussions of candidates are encouraged.

Can't think of too many other things to say. If any of the mods can think of any more guidelines feel free to add to my post. And if this topic does get out of hand I would like one of the mods to clean it up or lock it or do as you please. But were all adults here right? [/sarcasm]

Now, since thats out of the way... I made this thread so you could share with us your presidential candidate(s) of choice and why. Maybe even throw your stance on a few things. I guess I will start off...

Mike Huckabee

Reasons:
I think he has some good ideas on security, immigration, the economy, rights, energy independence, and various other things. But I do disagree with some views that he has as I do all republicans such as Faith, Abortion, and Stem-Cell research. I believe when your faith influences your choices, theres a problem. I support Abortion and Stem-Cell research he doesn't.

Rudy Giuliani

Reasons:
About the same with Giuliani as with Huckabee. Although I do support Giuliani more and would rather see him win the race.

On the democratic side I support Richardson, but it looks rather bleak for his campaign. And as with the others, Richardson doesn't have all his views the way I would like but the chance of the perfect candidate is very far fetched.

I'm going to be blunt. If any arguing occurs that isn't constructive, this is getting locked. Politics has a bad history, and is generally something we prohibit.

If Al Gore isn't running, I may as well sign my family's death warrant right now...
This is just my opinion, though.

I'm going with Obama.

-Experienced in Global Affairs
-Keeping nuclear power on the table
-Closing tax loopholes, and getting rid of unnecessary taxes.
-Some kind of legalization of immigrants who are already in the US.
-He has pledged to cut greenhouse gas emissions 80% below 1990 levels by creating a market-based cap-and-trade system
-Cutting down on the death penalty, but not abolishing it.

Rudy for Republican, Obama for democrat.

Rudy appears to have done a good job running New York, I don't think he would do worse as president. Obama for reasons posted by noscottno.

I'm not too fond of any candidates. They all have issues I disagree with to the point that I don't want to vote for them. It's picking the lesser of two evils in my case, I have to pick the one I dislike least, since there is no one I like.

personally, i like Kucinich. He supports all the things I do like Bush/Cheney impeachment as well as getting rid of the patriot act, an leaving Iraq, and seems to have his priorities straight.

I'd ideally want an Edwards/VP Kucinich administration best. I don't think it's likely that Kucinich will win, hence the arrangement.

Kucinich would be my favorite for president, but yeah, he's not getting elected by a long shot. It'd be awesome to see him as a VP, like Tural said. A second choice would have to be Richardson.
On the Republican side, I'm still not too sure. I'm split between Giuliani and Paul. Although I do respect Huckabee, even though I don't like his policies. I do care about faith influencing ideals, and frankly, it's always going to happen, and it's nearly always been around in politics everywhere. I do like that he's honest about it and doesn't try to hide it. He sticks to what he believes.

Ron Paul is my main man.

I believe Hilary Clinton would ruin the USA.

Don't take this the wrong way but...I truly don't like Obama and Hilary's standpoints at all.

I would, without anger or anything, like to know why others would vote for Obama or Hilary? Just a simple question.

Well some people just think different, and yes it is hard to understand why others think certain ways. But no matter where you go, people are going to have different views whether it's in their best wishes or for others. I've heard some people saying their just going to vote for Obama because he's black, which completely defeats the purpose of having elected leaders. We are supposed to vote for them because we think they can manage the country :/

I hope their not getting voted for, for just one issue. The issue of Iraq is a big issue with both parties, not just democrats.

Same, Obama is my backup. He's not as strong with policy, and truthfully I believe that a lot of what he says may just be fluff.

Although, its like that old Bostonian saying, "I like the Red Sox and anybody who beats the Yankees." Only in this mode its, "I like Paul or anybody else that isn't Clinton."
