Well I think/thought it's making a new topic and getting a certain amount of views in a short amount of time because the topic isn't considered "new" anymore or gets popular. The topic I just created I had barely any replies at the time but I had a crap load of views and it isn't popular yet.
Like get a decent amount of views before it becomes a popular topic or just get a decent amount of views before the topic is considered old.

Okay I'll back off that subject then. Anyways I'm seriously stumped then I understand what you mean so that puts a big X on my guess. I didn't even expect getting that emblem, but I'm am sure it has to do with topics, because that is all I did do today was create one, maybe a few posts here and there but doubt it did something.Tural wrote:Not my intention. Whether it is done by the server or by a person, the server can't see the dates of views, nor can a person. How it's done wasn't important to my comment.
then explain how the 'hot topic' thing works? you know when your topic gets one of theseTural wrote:I'm positive phpBB doesn't store the dates of the views, just the count. Therefore, so many people couldn't have gotten it right when it was added, because it has no way to look into the past at the short-amount-of-time thing. =/

It's quite simple really...Emblems are rewards for doing something good, being in the right place at the right time, making a difference...However, in my opinion, being rewarded for doing something awesome isn't enough...Being rewarded for being awesome naturally, is completely different...Cuda wrote:Why is it so bad to actually know what each one means?
A scenario for you...There's a magical emblem for shaking the hands of 100 people...If this emblem were to exist, and no one knew with a 100% calarity, then those who do it, are probably pretty nice guys, and deserving of the emblem...Oh sure lots of people will have figured out it's for shaking alot of hands, with no real quantitative measure, and they'll probably give it a try, and either get bored or succeed...
The same senario, but now this emblem is listed on the mega list of emblems...Shake 100 peoples hands, and you get an emblem...The amount of hand shaking would skyrocket over night...Everyone would be shaking everyones hand until hitting that magic number, getting the emblem, then never play again...To be honest, this is not the raw natural people we want to reward...
I have alot of emblems...The contest emblem I have, I achieved while proving a point...I don't deserve it in the sense that I participate in alot of contests of that nature...It means much less to me, and I'm sure to others about me, than it does to them...
Emblems should be perceived as a purely positive, and never a negative...Having emblems should make you feel better, not having emblems shouldn't make you feel worse...They're just the communities way of recognizing other people for doing something that helped out in some way...Just because you don't have one doesn't mean you didn't help out, just that you weren't recognized...And in the end, that shouldn't be why you helped out, and if it is, the motivation was wrong, and you're not deserving of the emblem anyways...

Is that helping the discussion of emblems? I think not.DrXThirst wrote:O.o
I_F misspelled "scenario" and "succeed".

Like Tural said, it stores the count of views. Hot topics are based off the count of views, not a frequency over time.xzodia wrote:then explain how the 'hot topic' thing works? you know when your topic gets one of theseTural wrote:I'm positive phpBB doesn't store the dates of the views, just the count. I'm quite sure of that, at least.

You get those with the view count. It has nothing to do with when it gets views. It could get one view the first day, and 14 sixteen years later and it would have that icon. (Assuming 15 is the number for that icon, I don't know what actually is.)xzodia wrote:then explain how the 'hot topic' thing works? you know when your topic gets one of theseTural wrote:I'm positive phpBB doesn't store the dates of the views, just the count.
