Interesting...* MOST ADDICTIVE VIDEO GAME FUELED BY DEW: Halo 3 (Microsoft Game Studios/ Bungie Studios)
I was hoping Halo 3 would get GOTY, just out of "loyalty" to the Halo franchise, but a lot of people liked Bioshock, I guess it deserves it.

It is expected, and demanded.Tural wrote:MrMurder, we're going to hold you to that promise.

I'm going to download the Bioshock demo, I want to see what this is all about.
(by the way, is there any way to pause a download? I hit cancel download after it was done 2% and when I restarted the download it started at 0% again. Xbox.com said that you could resume it later, and would only delete the content if you go into the memory to delete the partial download.. it did say playing a game online or turning off the console would pause it, but i just want to know this for reference)

It is a really really good game. But it doesn't make me go GOTY material (h3). Mass effect makes me giddy though
and crackdown was the game I had the most fun with this year. No mentions
It was just so good....Pity Microsoft was too slow to get in to make them do a sequel...Maybe another time.
But is bioshock really GOTY stuff? I was never fussed about it but a lot of people really like it.

I understand what you're saying, and I understand that Halo 3 didn't deserve it, but I still would've liked it see it win.
I'm curious for an explanation, Tural.Tural wrote:Indeed. Being a Halo game is one of the driving factors why it didn't get GOTY.

Because people are biased. So many people dislike Halo 3 because they're intimidated by it, because it's another big Halo title. They act ignorantly towards the game, denouncing it with no factual basis. Yes, there are legitimate reasons, but more people than not would be more apt to hate it for a nonexistent reason.

It was good for about 2 weeks, then I never touched it after, not even for the new DLC. I'm surprised that Bioshock won GOTY, it was really the last thing I expected to win.Aumaan Anubis wrote:Allright, thanks.
And, for anyone that knows. Is Bioshock really that good? I watched the IGN video review, and it just looked really, really, odd.
Heh, I hadn't realized it until you said that, but Crackdown is the game I most enjoyed this year alsoScottyGEE wrote:It is a really really good game. But it doesn't make me go GOTY material (h3). I thought bioshock was a very good[/g] game.
Weakness' I most remember:
Enemies do not really interact with you; their goal is to kill you. I know this sounds odd in that this is what you would expect, but considering the game has such little character interaction it would have been nice had the enemies been more interactive.
The powers didn't allow for anything especially unique to be done. Some of the powers could simply be ignored since they where either too weak, or they had a very negative gameplay impact (Killing a frozen enemy would result in zero loot).
The world didn't feel to dangerous; I mean it would have been nice to have something actually forcing you onward. I don;t just mean the tunnels that never destroy until your out of them. Genuine danger was missing I feel.
There was not enough enemies, and what there was ws not varied enough. All splicers looked the same (to me) and they had similar fighting tactics (mainly; run at you, kill).
the lack of a decent death penalty was very sad; the game simply made enemies much tougher but all this really forced the player to do is run back and kill the thing bit by bit.
Bose's where not unique! Damn that was sad...
The good:
very pretty environment.
nice range of powers and weapons
good plot-twists (a few anyways...)
good change in levels as you progress
felt like being in an underwater city
So...
I guess when looking back on it I remember more of the bad then the good. I'm not sure what that says about the game.

Someone should send me their Bioshock ;oP (Hey, if you didn't like it, why not?
)
I played the demo of it, it was pretty good. At first I thought people were just exaggerating when they said it was 15 minutes long, but, fuck, they weren't kidding. They didn't do a very good job at selling me the game in those 15 minutes :/

The demo is designed to persuade people into buying the product. Apparently the developers expect their consumer to buy the product despite it sucking, a lot, in the only form of playable content pre-purchase. Great marketing strategy, or greatest marketing strategy?

I played Bioshock for two hours and then took it back to blockbuster. I really didn't enjoy the game. I liked the ability to upgrade everything and all that, but you really had to go through a lot of killing just to get a stupid upgrade, that you later find out was pointless to get.
Overall I doubt it deserved GOTY.
Also, the fact that Halo 3 had more realistic water then Bioshock, A game revolved around water, was very disappointing.
