Get ready for some unexpected oddness ahead!
I want to swap masterchief with an elite so I can have a map with elites vs. honor guards. Simple mod you think? Well seems like no one has ever done this before, because I sure as hell can't find a solution to my problem.
Here's what I do:
I get the honor guard by injecting an elite hlmt, swap it in the masterchief_mp bipd and set the correct variation.
Voila, a map with honor guards and elites. But! When you get up close to the masterchief bipd (the honor guard). His armor turns extremely dark, as if it got burnt or something.
It's exactly the same issue this guy is talking about, except I'm doing it in a multiplayer map.

Again, this happens when you get up close to the bipd. When standing further away it looks completely normal. Wierd?
And no, using the elite_mp for my honor guard instead won't solve the problem. Since you're supposed to play as an elite no matter which character you choose, I'd still have to swap masterchief into a regular elite, which in turn causes the same burnt armor.
You get virtual cyber kittens if you find out what's causing this.
bipd swap trouble
I guess I'll just keep them to myself.
If anyone else ever gets this problem I can gladly tell you that the solution is simple. Instead of just transferring the elite hlmt from your singleplayer map, transfer the entire elite bipd. Go into the matg, right-click and choose idents, scroll down until you find "masterchief_mp" bipd and swap it for the "elite" bipd (not elite_mp). You now spawn as an elite instead of masterchief.
Optional step:
The movement for a singleplayer elite is not exactly the same as in multiplayer. To fix this go into the elite hlmt and change the values to match the elite_mp hlmt. Finally, in the same tag enable "show invisibles", scroll down to the middle of the tag and check the "bit 2" checkbox. This removes the jerky animations when the elite begins to walk.
