H2C Errors

Post by Zone 117 »

Alright, a lot of people seem to be having trouble with H2C. Many times it will just be because of some simple errors mentioned below.
Also, H2C isn't really a beginner program, if you are new to modding and you can't figure it out, don't use it until you are a little better.

Why H2C errors and how to fix it:
  • Vista is extremely buggy for Halo modding. Halo 2 modding is not meant for Vista. The only trick to getting an exe to work that doesn't work is right clicking it and disabling desktop composition in the properties. If it doesn't work, then you will just have to install XP or use a computer that has it.
  • If you have less than 512 MB of ram, use a different computer that has it.
  • If you're computer meets the things stated above, but still errors, try this:
    • Delete your shared, single shared, mainmenu, your SP map, and your MP map. Then get new ones from your disc. Even if you think they are clean, just do it.
    • Delete all the files in your decompiled folder.
    • Change the decompiled file directory setting in H2C.
    • Re-install .Net Framework. Even if you think your's works.
    • If H2C errors when rebuilding, uncheck deathzones and sounds, if it still errors, keep unchecking items until it works, then recheck everything else but the one that made it not work.

Some last advice...
When you click build or decompile or anything in H2C it starts it. IT IS BUSY, it's trying to do something, if you start click a million times when it's busy of course it will freeze and error. Just leave it alone, don't click it anymore after you have started it. If it looks like it freezes, leave it on and don't touch it, just let it finish.
Good luck.

You also if you have a computer thats 3 or more years older you may want to get a new one or upgrade the components in it.

Things you may want to upgrade:
  • ram, I would suggest having at least a gig on xp and at least 2gigs on vista. (512 will work fine for xp but 1gig is really useful if you have a lower memory graphics card.

motherboard/processor, Pentium 4 or newer and it needs to be at least 2 ghz (unless you have a core 2 duo). And if your getting a new motherboard make sure you get a processor thats compatible along with ram

HDD, get a larger hard drive or another hard drive, (80gig minimum). Also if your motherboard has sata connectors get a sata hard drive

graphics card, I would suggest anything over $30 and it needs at least 128mb of memory on it
For upgrading your computers components check out this site.

I didn't just post this to fix h2 core errors, this would also fix some of entity's bsp errors plus give you a faster computer in general.

my rig:

Windows XP service pack 2

pentium D 2.8ghz
1gig of ram
80 gig hdd
256mb ATI radeon X550

I agree. Also, for your mediocre modding needs, you will need a computer like this :
  • Processor : Pentium 4 3ghz w/Hyperthreading
    RAM : 1GB
Video Card : 256mb ATI or Nvidia
    Hard Drive : 160GB
Now remember, thats for your BASIC to MEDIOCRE modding needs. If you have less than any of that, then you will probably experience MANY problems with Entity, Entity's BSP viewer, H2C, H2G and MANY other modding applications.

(Also, if anyone was wondering, the specs above are from MY computer.)

Correction, the currently released applications were not designed for vista. Vista uses a 64-bit architecture, compared to XP's 32-bit. The way they deal with memory and allocation sizes for value types is different, thus you get weird problems when things get memory intensive.

Has?.. >_>

That won't do anything, just make you feel better
