Ftping issues...?Solved

Post by DoorM4n »

Howdy,
I have a problem FTPing and I can't seem to figure out how to fix it. I understand there are many many factors that can disable ftping and so I will try to cover all that I am aware of.

Basic Dilemma
I cannot connect to my Xbox from my computer via FTP.

Factors
Yes, all of the cables are plugged in properly. I am able to play xbc perfectly.
Yes, my windows firewall is disabled.
Yes, I have been able to ftp in the past using the same method and using the same cables.
Yes, the IP address is the same IP address typed in the address in SmartFTP.
Yes, my xbox is allowing FTP transfers in the settings of the console.
Yes, the host, password, and port are correct.
Yes, I have tried UberScreenShot tool to attempt to connect to my xbox. However, it obviously failed.

I have tried all the techniques to allowing FTP access that I am aware of and desperately need it to work.

Thanks for reading and hopefully you may have the solution.

Questions
I have had problems with my modchip lately and have had to gently move the chip back and forth to get it to work. Is it possible that a damaged modchip would disallow FTP access and nothing else?

Can you test it on another modded Xbox?

Doesn't make much sense to me, though it seems that it can't be the applications fault, (uberscreenshot tool, smart FTP) I'd suggest just trying to FTP with a web browser, and see what error it gives you.

I wish you luck.

Is there a way to directly connect my xbox to a computer and allow ftp access?

Make sure your ICMP allows all requests and messages.

So far I have done everything I can think of except get my gamer router which I will pull out soon.

I don't get it.

I have a perfectly working Modded Box and then I move houses. I set up a wireless router then I connect my box to (cabled) and I connect my comp through (cabled) and now I cant ftp. I try my old router by itself by connecting my pc and xbox to it and I still cannot ftp. I move chip around to get it working again and everythign is fine except ftping...

**** I need to get this working.

try pinging the xbox, or port scanning it to see if the FTP port is still open. also, go through and check your router's config to see if there might be anything in there that would cause problems.
ASPARTAME: in your diet soda and artificial sweeteners. also, it's obviously completely safe. it's not like it will cause tumors or anything. >.>

I did a Port Scan and saw my Xbox IP 192.168.0.119 as Dead. How would a DefaultGateway, DNS, or Subnetmask affect my ftping?

Your xbox and computer NEED the same gateway to FTP. Atleast its like that for me. I had some FTP and devFTP problems when my gateway was messed up.

I'm no expert in this but maybe you could directly connect the PC to the xbox and if it works you know it is a router problem.

Are you using a DHCP or static setup?

Last time I tried that the ip did not even show up on my xbox. I will try again though.

Static, and yes it is the only connection labeled 192.168.0.119 on my network. :)

When I connected directly...my IP on my xbox said...No Link

When I pinged my xbox the first time. It said "Request Timed Out"

When I did it a second time with a faulty IP. It said "Destination Host Unreachable"

Meaning the Computer knows the xbox is there but can't get a signal. Correct?

WOW...

I just now felt a gushing wind next to my ear. Next thing I know. It's working. I did not do anything at all. I did not change one single thing at all. Somehow, I restarted my box and I felt the wind.
