Front page..
Front page..
I've noticed that the front page is a little... well.. Inactive compared to how it used to be. I remember when there used to always be cool little news flashes of the forums or other events taking place that may catch my interest. I found it convenient, so that I wouldn't have to dig through the forums to find anything new that has happened, or current contests and events. I always find myself missing out on some things because I hadn't heard of it until the last minute.
I realize the staff is busy with other things, however, this is where my suggestion comes in. Maybe there should be a Halomods editorial group, where a group of members (anonymous perhaps, to avoid those looking for a special avatar or rank?). Focused mainly on writing new articles for the front page. I remember maybe about a couple years back, Excal had a similar idea, but he never really launched it out, which was a shame.
Members would be required to meet certain standards, such as great use of spelling and grammar.
I was also thinking of a system...
So, I figure the staff wouldn't want to give out FTP passwords to a bunch of random users, right? Well, perhaps it would be a good idea to have the editorial group submit their articles to a specific staff member to put onto the front page if he found it appropriate and well written.
What do you think?

Writing articles for the front page would not require FTP access in any way, all we'd need is an account that could post on the main page.
At the moment, there's really not that much to report/post about...but as for Excal's idea...that was meant to be a mod review group, not a front page news group.

Oh, alright, in previous experience I've always had to FTP to get new info on a front page, heh.GametagAeonFlux wrote:Writing articles for the front page would not require FTP access in any way, all we'd need is an account that could post on the main page.

Ah yes, I remember now.. He wanted people to test mods and post reviews about them. But its kind of the same concept.. More views to the front page, and more information being spread to members.
Point taken. But it doesn't have to be news from Halomods necessarily. They could be off-site happenings that could be of some interest to the Halomdos community.ScottyGEE wrote:Sounds like the old editors job...ish..only not on a 7 article in 7 day schedule
Interesting, but is there much news to post?
Also, we've also got Halo 3 and H2V released now, and people working on modding those, there should be some nice news comming in. It doesn't necessarily have to be breaking news either, it could be some cool little information and such.
That was another advantage I had in mind.. member recognitionScottyGEE wrote:Like Antheon's hi res pictures =p
Really? That'd be cool if that would work out.Tural wrote: But really, anyone can submit stories. All we need is someone (Gren/Nick/IF) to give an active staff member (Myself, Gametag, Scotty) permissions to approve them.
I'll talk to I_F next time he's available to see if that's possible. It shouldn't be a problem. I know permission also allows editing of the article, so we could proofread it and fix the spelling errors and such. However, people would have to not complain if a story doesn't get approved, because if we're going to have a true main page news flow, we won't be approving every story. I suspect we'd see far too many people submitting their new mods, then claiming we're causing problems by not approving them.
Thank you :)Tural wrote:I'll talk to I_F next time he's available to see if that's possible. It shouldn't be a problem. Pretty cool that there's already a system set up for this, hopefully people won't mess it up for others.
