i said CO2 but then i had said that i think i was thinking about Liquid Nitrogen not CO2 and when it comes out of its container is like -100 or something. thus instantaneously freezing anything. also butane is really really cold i like had a chunk of my skin fall off when i had some of it leak on me from a container. and yes Nitrous Oxide is NO2 aka NOS

No. Your wrong. Again.newbymodder wrote:[...]and yes Nitrous Oxide is NO2 aka NOS
- Nitrous oxide = N2O.
- NOS is just an abbreviation of the word 'Nitrous Oxide', not an abbreviation of the fucking chemical formula..

To freeze somthing your simply turning the substance to its solid state you cant turn a substance into its solid state if its already there.patchesreusch wrote:liquid hydrogen is like -300 and i think liquid oxygen is somewhere around there to

and getting towards a more philosophical side, has anyone read the book The Ago of Spiritual Machines by Ray Kurzweil? i have to read it for school, but it's amazing. essentially it talks about how before long machines will surpass us in intelligence, maybe even gain a consciousness. overall, it really makes you think, but here's an interesting point to think about:
when implants become more popular, eventually there will be a point where your body and intelligence can be vastly improved with machines. this brings us to question individuality with an example in the book: jack gets a cochlear implant to help with his hard-of-hearing a standard hearing aid would do nothing for. impressed with the improvement, he gets a chip that augments the hearing/speech center of his brain, and marvels at his better understanding of people. continuing the trend, he gets memory improvement devices, eye implants, and so on. the question is whether he is the same jack after all the additions, or whether the old jack has died somewhere along the way - commit suicide if you will - and a new "jack" built in the old jack's image is in his place. also take into consideration if jack had all those additions applied at the same time, or even if he got a new body. would he still be the same jack? would he even survive at all? would he lay down for the surgery, allow his brain to be scanned for the transfer to the new body, and thus die? could his consciousness transfer from his original body to the machine?
makes ya think...

probably, but if we look at it as our consciousness being what makes us individuals, then we have to determine whether it's our particles that make us us, or if it's our pattern. because the particles we're made of change all the time, i personally thing it's the pattern. i suppose by pattern he (kurzweil) meant thought process/arrangement of particles, like you said shadowkhas, but if it's the pattern that makes us unique, then being completely transferred to a new brain/body could mean we are just committing suicide and allowing a replica to take our place. or maybe it is because it's a replica in our image our conscious/mind would transfer?
the issue here is that we don't know what exactly makes us conscious. if we could define consciousness, other than self-awareness, we wouldn't be able to figure out what it is physically made of, or if it's physical at all. like i said, i think our consciousness is probably our thought process, and how we think/analyze things, like shadow said, but there's no way to find out really.

which is interesting because in this book i'm reading it mentions something called the law of time and chaos (i don't think it's actually established) where time and entropy are both exponential and proportional. interesting concept, when you consider the birth of our universe, where entropy increases from literally nothing in the beginning, as the time between major milestones such as the big bang and the forming of matter in much less than a millisecond, where there was little entropy, to the billions of years it took to form earth, our solar system, and for life to start, while chaos has been proportionally increasing due to the 2nd law of thermodynamics.jks wrote:The second law of Thermodynamics states that the total entropy in any system always increases towards the maximum.
