Dedicated Server???
Dedicated Server???
I am thinking about having a Halo 2 tournament(xbox) and wanted one xbox to host or have zero players. Would it be possible to do this? I read that it is possible to add bots but is it possible to have no players? It would be LAN, not live. All I have done is add maps with memisis and ftp, so I don't know too musch about modding but I will be able to figure it out if someone knows how. I think this would be cool, because then you wouldnt have to depend on the people competing to set up the game correctly. Is there a way to view lan game stats remotly, that would help too? thanks for advice

Yeah thats probably your best best, you can't start a game with No players. If you do what OwnZ said then the character hosting will be invisible and wouldn't be able to die, you could fly him to the top of the map and it would be like he was never there.OwnZ joO wrote:You could try to make the player invincible or something, null their coll and phmo, and make them fly and null all their shaders while you're at it. Then it would be a fair deal.

"A hero needs not to speak, for when he is gone, the world will speak for him" - My favorite quote.
so, it would be best to find a way to make an invincible player? Could I make a player profile with a gameshark transfer, so that the xbox wouldn't have to be modded?
I was thinking another possibility might be changing the spawn point of one team, because then this invincble player wouldnt be near the others.

There are many possible solutions to this problem, none too difficult, although most of them will require a modded Xbox.
- Make the elite invincible. This requires everyone to play as the Master Chief, however.
- Add a teleporter that teleports you to a remote part of the map, possibly onto a platform that you position high in the sky. You can surround the teleporter with machine doors that close when a switch is pressed and never open for the remainder of the game. This is probably more complex than you have in mind, however.
- Vertically overlap a bunch of elevators from Ivory Tower in such a way that when you step on the first elevator platform, you get lifted continuously until you're near the upper boundary of the map. Where the top platform drops you off, you can have a fixed platform waiting to catch you. But come to think of it, this really isn't any different from the previous idea.
Here are some non-modding solutions:
- Simply march the host player to a remote area of the map, as far from the player spawns as you can get. Everyone is on his honor not to kill the host... On Ascension, you can drop to the hiding spot below the giant forked tower. Super bounces might also get you to a secluded spot, but if you don't know how to do those already, learning them is a complete waste of time. Well, except maybe the one inside the shed of Zanzibar, since it's so easy.
- Change one of the vehicles on the map to a Banshee. Get in as the host, then aim it up at the sky. Eventually the Banshee will pin itself against the invisible boundaries of the map and stay there. Again, everyone is on his honor not to kill the host, but the aerial distance makes it harder to kill him anyway. This is probably the easiest way to do it.
- Set active camo on in your game type. That way, you can only see players who shoot or who move, and the host should do neither.

Retired. Thank you neodos, DemonicSandwich, DarkShallFall, Dragonfire, foxfanatic2317, GOWO and everyone in the hall of fame.

What would be the point of having a dedicated server?
I can understand trying to get rid of 'host-advantage', but that doesn't stop people who have a good connection from having less lag than others.
And, you said you're doing this on a LAN. Lag is hardly noticeable on wireless connections on LAN games. And if you're playing on a wired connection... You would be much better off worrying about things like where people are going to be sitting, and how you'll have TVs set up. You should worry about lag just as much as you should worry about a your ac/heater inexplainably exploding during the LAN party.

If you had 2 boxes, one could be the dedicated server, and the other you could play on. You wouldn't get rid of the no lag advantage, but you wouldn't be able to grenade jump/do other host things.grimdoomer wrote:well i dont think you could with halo 2 youw puld need to have atleast one person in it at all times meaning you. then just go on another team with yelo on
yelo installed
so, i installed the yelo trainer and then started halo2 and all i could get was wireframe, because I forgot to put the config file in, but once I did it still won't work. My xbox freezes every time I hit start in halo 2.
nevermind i fixed it
