Proper Dual-Wielding Swords Concept

Post by Nemihara »

I'd mod this myself, but I screwed up my read-only maps folder and my original H2 disk got lost. By the way, I suggest not reading this and looking for proof. I just concepted it (hence the title) and can't mod it myself. :(

Playing around with a chainsaw mod, I suddenly had the eppiphany to brief it out. Basically, from what I understand, the chainsaw actually 'fires' rounds that dissappate at ranges further than melees. Each round does damage, but instead of the movement of a melee, because it is actually 'firing', it won't go through that particular function. Now, if someone were to make the sword 'fire' like the chainsaw, added dual-wield, and switched the sword's 'firing' animation with it's 'melee' animation, then it would look like actually dual-wielding swords, but act like firing very short range death sticks. Thus, removing the fact that meleeing (which is what happens when you pull the 'R' trigger) drops the dual-wielded weapon, though it'd still happen if you press 'B'.

Like I said, don't have any recources to mod, and I suck at it anyways, but an idea. Later on I'd want to try scope it out. Would this feasibly work?

It sure sounds like it would. In fact, you wouldn't even need to use the sword as a base, you could clone the tag of a pistol or something and do what you said so that pushing R doesn't drop the sword. You'd just have to swap the jmads and modes for the sword's.

It would give you the ability to do damage with the left sword, but there is no melee animation for the sword in the left hand. So the sword would be resting in the angled left hand pose, causing damage without moving. It would be more like a sword in the right hand and a chainsaw in the left.

I don't think any manner of jmad swaps would get the left hand to swing the sword. Just having something in the left hand precludes the grenade tossing animation, and I don't know what else you could use. The overheat animation for the left plasma pistol?

As G.I.R. points out, you would have to use a weapon other than the sword in order to prevent the R trigger from dropping the left sword. But that would deprive you of the lunge melee.

An interesting idea, and I believe ScottyGEE suggested it somewhere else, but I think there are too many snags.

Damn! Now I'm going to turn into Barbra Streisand! Curse yooou!!!
What's more humiliating is that ScottyGEE warned me.

Stupidity and complete idiocracy aside, I figured I could time it so it animates the right side like melee. As for dual-wielding, you don't have to only use swords. A charged Plasma Pistol, Jackal Shield, SMG...The list goes on. Stupid left hand sword not having a animation. Forgot about that fact. As for lunging...I dunno about that. I suppose you could make it override normal firing.

(As a side note, I thought about another sword idea, but it's too small to constitute a new topic. I don't care too much about it, but it's cool. Basically, you take the sword, disable grenades, make L fire a invisible non-lethal force beam that spawns in the air way behind him to throw him towards you like the gravity gun, but more force. Then you can lunge at him and kill him. It's like using the gravity gun and dragging the guy towards you, then switching to sword.)
