Difference between US bitmaps.map and EU?
Difference between US bitmaps.map and EU?
I found out that both files are nearly exactly the same size. Yet the HMT 3.5 says "not a valid map file" if I want to open my bitmaps.map. All other map files work. I have installed it from the ORIGINAL CD again and again and the file is different. I can apply NONE of all the great mods here because of some byte differencies. Who can help me in finding out what the difference is? Maybe the .ppf can be altered to work with the european version. Is the original US bitmap.map downloadable from somewhere?
Thanks in advance for any information.

Only if there is no other way - as I do NOT know if this is legal. I do NOT want to get any problems because of illegal content. And I certainly do not want to open another thread, this is the last one
Well, my only way to apply mods would be the US bitmap.map. Or to find out what the differences are (maybe subtle?). And somehow use a hexeditor to fix it.
EDIT: I *think* this is legal, since I also own the original european version and it is a file that is of no use isolated from the game. Also it might be that it just isn't compatible to my european version at all.

Well, I tried to apply my .ppf from the Restored Shaders Mod to my bitmaps.map (freshly installed from orig. CD) with the latest PPF-O-Matic
It says it's finished etc. then I start Halo and I get little squares and pixelgarbage all over my assault rifle for example. That means that somewhere the textures applied to the right position in the file (some textures do work, like the shader for the ring in the main menu) and some are a little off some bytes and thus destroying some textures. This might occur because my bitmaps.map is just some bytes longer (or shorter) than the original bitmaps.map you use.

Yes, I found out how to do this aswell. Still, the shader restoration mod can ONLY be applied to an US original bitmaps.map. This ppf patch was made on a US system with a US game for a US original bitmaps.map. But I want to use this on my EUROPEAN Halo with EUROPEAN bitmaps.map. So the only way might be to get the original US bitmaps.map file.
you don't open bitmaps.map. All the other .map files draw info from it, and you can't open it in HMT
nor can you open sounds
just go to start>run and type in 'D:\FilesCab'
D being what ever drive halo is for you. unzip cab4 and in there is a fresh new bitmaps.map. for get ppf o matic and apply the patch to it.
