No shader effects for cloaked enemies on newer gfx cards?
No shader effects for cloaked enemies on newer gfx cards?
Hello! After discovering this -very nice- forum I thought I finally give this a shot:
For several years(!) now I have the problem that on every -newer- graphics card (right now on my 7900GTO) the shader-effect when the player or enemies are cloaking/invisible won't work. Actually the weapon of the player for example should "distort" the view a little, like a fluid. The same goes for the enemies.
Please try to use cloaking and test if you get the right effect. If it DOES NOT work you just get a semi-transparent weapon (most people won't notice the difference, but on the XBOX it looks by far better).
For a quick test go to Blood Gulch in Muliplayer and login/logout until you can find that small pyramid thingie that makes you invisible in the level. Should be not far from the starting spawn point. Whoever has the effect on a Geforce card - please take a screenshot.
PS.: Another mod here on the site seems to actually ADD shaders to surfaces, so this might be possible to mod back in!!
Thanks for any help in advance!

Of course I checked that and everything else, too - latest drivers, clean windows, no problems with other games, all working fine. I tested this on several current and lastgen graphics cards, I am SURE that everyone with a geforce7900 or similar will miss this effect.
Can you see it? Looks a bit like the cloaking in the "Predator" movies.

Just reinstalled Halo from original CD, DirectX9.0c, no mods applied, latest patch on it, Windows XP genuine SP2. That should be enough proof that I am not kidding. It just doesn't work anymore.
If you have the game and can take a look - please make a screenshot of the effect and post it here, thanks.

What do you mean? 2gig of ram (quality). Well of course it is a problem with my graphicscard/directx/setting, but to find out how to FIX it, I need some information. Do other people eperience this too? Does it work on the 8800? does it work on the 6800? Does it work on ATI cards?
If it is working for you - post a screenshot. If you can not see the correct shader effect, tell me what graphics card you have and I will add this here.

The Reason it looks so much crappier is because Gearbox wanted it to look crappier.
Not literaly, they took out a lot of the shaders, im guessing so that it could run easier on crappy computers (mine).
There's a shader restoration "patch" you can download, i think it's stickied in the outstanding mods section.
