you used booleans on the clip didn't you?
Well there is a better way with makes you mesh way better and cleaner. What I mean by mesh is those white lings when you are in editable mesh or poly. Ok, When you have your clip basically design
right click -> Editable poly/mesh (whatever one you like to use more)
then select Polygon, Big Red square then scroll down until you see a box with the word "Cut". Select it and put your curser over your mesh.
It is always best to start from a line that is already there, and then bring the cut you are creating down to another white line, and then you can do any design that you want, they will be straight.
Now after you have done the lines you must extrude them into the clip. Click the polygon again, and then selet in between the lines that you have just created then scroll down until you find a box with the word "Extrude" in it. When you see extrude there is another smaller box to the right of it. Click on that and a box will appear on your screen, it gives you 3 options, but for now we will use the "group" one and then there is a box with the amount that you want to extrude. But we want to extrude into the mesh so we have to make it a negative. For testing try using -2.0 and see what the results are, keep messing around with it until you get it the way you like. I hope that has helped you

always a pleasure
