Modding Illegal?
I know facts and law, and the fact is, modding is not illegal.
They ban Xboxes and Accounts because they don't want unfair advantages over others...
Are you saying modifying a car is illegal? No...modding is only illegal if you use it illegally such as game piracy...you can do whatever you want with whatever you buy, computers, Xboxes, cars, etc.
But some are saying it is illegal, please tell me why you think it is illegal?

No, it's still illegal, but M$ isn't gonna come after every small person who mods their box, they're mostly after the bigger players that sell modded boxes and whatnot. I don't remember how it's illegal, but I think it has to do with by using the xbox, you agree to their license and that includes not to modify it or something...

it is illegal to copy the halo 2 disc, which most of us all have done
92% of teens have moved on to rap. If you are part of the 8% who still listen to real music, copy and paste this into your signature.

i thought it was illegal to make copies and distribute it for your own profit not burn it to your harddrive but any way selling a modded box is illegal because your changing what Microsoft has made with what you have added on and selling it and i guess halo 2 could fall into play if say oh you sell your box with games on the harddrive and halo 2 is on there then your breaking alot of rules lol because now your selling like lots of games illegally and movies well thats only if i sold mine i guess.blackdiamond wrote:it is illegal to copy the halo 2 disc, which most of us all have done

You guys, modding your xbox is illegal, then end. But M$ isn't going to hunt out every single person that does it, just they big players that premod xbox's to sell and things of that nature, I know people keep saying that in this thread, but they say it like it's not illegal, when in fact you are breaking the terms of use that you agree to when using an xbox.

Well a gaming console is a completely different than a PC even though an xbox really is a computer made for only video games, PCs are made to be upgradeable, they don't put anything like that in the terms of use or anything, but gaming consoles should all be pretty much exactly equal, so that noone has an advantage.

We're not saying its wrong to mod the game, we're just saying that it's still illegal, we just do it in a way that is less illegal than we could, so people don't wanna come after us. We try to avoid ripping content from other games and cheating mods on live, or anything that would make us a target.W00g3rB00g3r wrote:We're not saying we MADE the game, if anything, we are saying we made the MODIFICATIONS, no one says I MADE HALO 2, BOW DOWN TO ME BIOTCHES! You can't say that...but you can say I made the Mods...
Computers can't be copyrighted, game consoles can, and are.newbymodder wrote:well idk why a modded box would be any different thats a stupid term of use for it i mean people add stuff to pc's all the time like bigger harddrives ect i understand what your saying but i mean that law is retarded on M's behalf
I do love how everyone claims the law is retarded, as is Microsoft, for:
A) Copyrighting their work.
B) Not really enforcing the law, which they could if they wanted to. They could server up CaD letters left and right, they choose not to so long as the people doing the action aren't damaging their business and whatever other reasons they have.
Great logic, really. Yeah, everything should be open source, everything should be free, we don't need a legal system, we don't need copyright laws, this is just the man's way of keeping us down. CURSE YOU, GOVERNMENT!
