connecting to my xbox

Post by blackdiamond »

i have problems connecting to my xbox from my computer. the problem is that i am at a hotel, and there is no router anymore. that is because the hotel provides this little plug-in in the wall that an ethernet goes in for the internet. if i put the ethernet from the xbox to the wall instead, it won't work. so does anyone know a way to do this?

if you're at a hotel, couldn't you save yourself the issue and wait until you're home?

There is your problem right there. Try inserting your cable into the ethernet ports of both devices.

oh.

and i suggest going with lavix's suggestion, all you have to do is make sure the pc and xbox are in the same subnet for it to work

I hope this works for you... I was at a hotel once and I decided to crack open my laptop and play Halo PC multiplayer... and, it messed up the internet because of some lame filter they put on there.

Pretty sure that for Xbox-to-PC direct connections you need a crossover, not a standard ethernet cable.

this.

if you really want to bother checking, look at both ends of the cable to see how the cables move over from one end to the other. it would be easier to just plug it in and see fi it works, but if you feel like checking, here's how:

look at one end of the cable and memorize/write down the color of the cables and what position they are. then look at the other end and do the same thing. now that you have the pinout for both ends, see if the wires switch over at all. here's what i got for my crossover cable:

==end #1==

1: white/orange
2: orange
3: white/green
4: blue
5: white/blue
6: green:
7: white/brown
8: brown

==end #2==

1: white/green
2: green
3: white/orange
4: blue
5: white/blue
6: orange
7: white/brown
8: brown

here's how it stacks up if yours uses different colors

end 1----------------end 2
1----------------------3
2----------------------6
3----------------------1
4----------------------4
5----------------------5
6----------------------2
7----------------------7
8----------------------8

summmary: if it's 1 to 3, 2 to 6, then it's crossover.

i have a pci slot in the back that i use for my 360 with no crossover all you do is got to network setup and bridge the conncetions in that (i might have changed something else) it also causes less lag without the router haveing 1 instead of 2

so, using that mini-tutorial, i find a crossover and use it instead of the ethernet one i am using? ok, but i'll have to wait till i can get my hands on the storage center, since i have only one extra there.

i just tried this, and it did not work, black told me on aim that it didn't work. he said he connected it to the port next to the work ethernet, the same place where the internet connects with an ethernet cable. he says his I.P. is different now, since he is in a different hotel, but still used the same I.P. he used from his other house. he says SmartFTP told him this:

[17:59:13] Resolving host name "192.168.0.12"
[17:59:13] Connecting to 192.168.0.12 Port: 21

[17:59:13] A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable network.
[17:59:13] Client closed the connection.

Get a crossover cable, connect it from your xbox to pc.

Then allow your xbox to automatically determine your IP, unless you have the IP of you computer, in that case, use it.

Now open up your favorite FTP program and type in the IP of your xbox. your username and pass will be what you chose, depending on your bios. Most have them both set to xbox by default.

You should be able to happily navigate through and use all the illegal software your probably using...

If you have a problem then it is you. You're either not using a crossover cable, the right IP, or your computer has a firewall. I usually do not say this, but go to Xbox-Scene if you have further issues.

Awhile ago my old laptop wouldn't allow the ethernet to work for the internet...not sure why so this is what I did.

Use USB to connect to the internet. Then plugged my ethernet cord straight from my xbox to my laptop's ethernet port. Then I proceeded to setup my ethernet connection so that it gave my xbox a static ip. That way, my computer's ethernet connection was always straight to my xbox. If you need help doing this, and your hotel has a USB connection...let me know.
