I've gone through about 4 xboxes total (counting modding and ones that just **** out), and it's not really been a problem. Hopefully we'll still see some good Halo 3 mods (and Halo 2).
If halo 3 modding does kick off, then I suggest you are around for the beginning of it rather than the end like you are with halo 2...Much more of a challenge then using 2.5 years worth of many people's research combined into an app which does almost everything for you in an almost drag and drop manner. Real men mod from the start using only previous experience, a smart head and a large, thick and extremely manly beard in which to stroke during the tough times. I was never one of them
xbox 360 hasn't really gotten too many results this time around though with modding =( and there is defiantly no way 'm going to use a poor method like the firmware hack to play some mods which is only a little hobby of mine. I can only hope for effeciency and an extra push for 360 modding when h3 comes out. But hey, Bungie might go down the path of H1, maybe the 360 dvd format isn't large enough, so they compress their maps on the disk and decompress them to the hdd cache, allowing for modding if only (and hopefully) local play only.

Haha, yeah, good point Scotty.
I'll still be on the site, not that I contribute much/at all, but I don't think I'll ever mod my 360. Hopefully, H3 Modding will be easier than expected.
as of now if halo3 were to be released it would probably be against the rules to even mod it because you have to flash your dvd drives firmware then you will be banned from xbox live and would eventually start problems with microsoft because of people complainting of being banned but yea if this is gonna happen we need to find some way to make it work for all of us

well theres a problem with that already, NO xbox 360 games use the xbox hdd for cache, being that M$ said that no games will require a xbox hdd, only if you want to save games and such. So that means all the game data is loaded into the 360 memory

Yea thats true we seriously need to find a way mabe we can come together with some people from xbox-scene to try to figure out a way to make games playable from the HDD or something like that that or chip the 360 is our best bet i guess

hahaa, stop trying ot include yourself with "we" nub
pretty much the only way you can play mods is if you have a debug 360

Bah I forgot about that...Stupid core system decision =(
This collaboration is not endorsed by Halomods
Technically its only me animating though
That doesn't mean that the xbox360 with an HDD won't use the harddrive for games, who knows, we'll see, one thing is sure, when they add downloadable content, news maps, then we'll be able to do something, maybe >_>

I don't think Halo 3 modding will be as prominent as you would think.
You figure you can't store the game on the hard drive and be able to execute it from there, and there isn't a whole lot of news concerning 360 modification. As much as we'd like to think Halo 3 will cause everyone to go make perfect modchips for the 360, it likely won't. In addition, there'd be no online system link play, assuming it has the same type of thing most 360 titles have which prevents system link tunnelers from working. We'll see though, but as it looks right now, there doesn't seem to be much interest in being able to do the things that would be almost a necessity for Halo 3 modding.
Lack of online system link play killed Halo 2 modding for me. There's no fun in playing by yourself, and you can only do so many split-screen games before it gets incredibly boring.
neodos, we won't be supporting modding the downloaded content, as we don't with Halo 2.
well i just started modding im not going stop modding when halo 3 comes out but i am not going to mod halo 3 because it looks way to good to just go and ruin it halo 2 is the perfect game to be modding on
hmm well when h3 does come out as i said i will always mod h2 just to try and put a twist on the gameplay but if by some chance the pro's crack h3 really good i'll be waiting for the h3 to h2 conversions not for everything i know the graphics are almost impossible but if we could just get the basics of the mp maps on h3 and convert that to h2 then we could do the rest using what material h2 already has. and if h2v to h2x becomes reality then h2 modding will have a big boost for a while as in new awesome home brewed maps for xbox i think after every mp map gets converted and has been skinned with a new environment then we will all need these types of conversions and to the early note on a mod chip for the 360 they already have them there just really pricey and if u put it in no xbl
i doubt i'll ever mod halo 3 because i doubt i'll ever mod my 360...therefore i'll remain with halo 2 until i'm bored of it or i have less free time...
newbymodder wrote:mod chip for the 360 they already have them
I am 99% sure there is no device that will allow execution of games on the hard drive. The only thing that is available is a firmware modification, which means you'd have to burn a disc every single time you wanted to test anything.
