[Map] Xtreme Climb
When I orginally made this map, I made it minding the fact that not everyone who plays Halo 2 is a competitive gamer. I know this from firsthand expiriance. Sure, I'm a good play, but I don't do it to be competive. Its annoying to be constantly killed by that dude with the sword, but I don't care. So, I made this map, just so non-players can have a good time.
In testing, the people who played this thought the type was fun, and would defently like it if more maps of the style were made. So, with great pride I present you the first ever Xtreme Climb map.

If you would like to contribute to the Xtreme Climbing map series, GO AHEAD. We need more maps like this.
Post what you think about it. When Halomaps.com posts this map on their site, in the notes section, it'll explain the tricky parts.

When you download the map you need to put the .map file in a specific folder. By defualt this is C:\Users\*profile name*\Documents\My Games\Halo 2\Maps\. Place it in the maps folder and then you can select it from the custom maps list in h2v.johnnyblaz20 wrote:okay i'm new to halo 2. if i download a custom map, how do i try it?
Obviously some people have never played anything else other than halo. Its not a combat based map, its a climbing map. I have not personly tried this map out yet but when jump maps are made well they can be alot of fun. Counterstike had some of the best jump maps ever. I remember spending many hours completing some haha. It's good to see some one is bringing it to halo. Thank you McJix. Do you have any plans on making more?

Yeah, I actually made an Xtreme Climb 2 map, and I was testing it out later last night. It works differently than the 1st one, becuase it uses 5 differnt boxes, so it doesn't use those tele cones that the 1st one had.
And Snave, just because a map contains simple geometry doesn't mean it sucks. In fact, most of those climbing maps from Counter Strike are simple boxes, tubes, and cylinders just becuase those work the best and can be exploited the most for use in the game. I exepertly used this and a lot of simple math the make sure the boxes where spaced so that if would be possible with the games engine, but not too difficult. Just becuase it isn't a fighting map doesn't mean its fun. Remember all those RPG maps that Halo CE had? All those Vehicles (The D-Pad, Mythios, that Bomber Jet) made those maps fun. The jumping and the challenge make this map fun. Obviously, with my current maping skill level, I can't create Yoyorast Island maps or Coldsnap maps, but I think I did a good job for what I was trying to do.
But yeah, I do have plans to make more, and if any map maker wants to make maps like this, I'll tell you to go ahead. Lets start a new series of maps.

IM sorry but this reminds me of those crappy bunny track maps from unreal tournament. that i hate. All i can say is make it more scenic. Then more ppl would try and play.

The next one I make (being the 3rd one), will be more scenic because I know a lot more than what I did know back when I made this map. No offense to you or anything, but how can you call the map crappy before you even tested it out? You may hate those bunny maps, but Halo 2 runs off of a different engine, and has a different feel that Unreal Tournament does.
Hmm another ugly map. Where are the effects that everyone so excited to put into their maps? I'm not saying it doesn't play well - I think this is a great idea, but you need to make your work look appealing. You're probably not going to get a lot of people to play this, after awhile. If you want to make your map timeless, learn the tools and put more work into it. Don't take this the wrong way.

I'm not bashing his map, I'm bashing the look. Though I will confess that I was a bit quick on the gun (I was just going by the screens), it's true that many of the new maps that are coming out just don't look very appealing.
I did try out the map, and I absolutely love the idea. I would sure like to see more maps of this kind.

I uploaded an Xtreme Climb 2 to halomaps.org some time ago, but its been about 2 weeks and there has been no updates to the website. Its just unfortunate that I wasn't, able to add scenery to this one too.
The orgianl reasion why I didn't add more astetics (other than I was new to 3ds max 7) is becuase it would be possible ofr the scenery to block the teleporters. I now know a better way of what I was trying to do, but I used a cone with a tele at the bottom, so people would funnel down to the bottom. In Counter Strike, a teleporter can be spread throught a large area. In Halo, it can't. This was the next best way of doing it without the Checkpoint Mod script that CS:S has.
In fact, I'm working on a third one, which doens't use the tele cones, so expect that one to be a bit better looking than my first two. If I tried to do anything with this map, it was trying to make the simple shapes make more complex appearing objects.
You may not also see much people playing it, mostly becuase I'm sure they play it over LAN. Once I make more, I'm also sure I'll be seeing a 24/7 Xtreme Climb server.
