I'd suggest Virtual PC, can't really go wrong running an OS inside a window.

What can't you get installed? The VM or your Linux distro?

How much space did you allocate to the VM? It needs to be at least 4gig.

yeah, that's one of the GREAT things about ubuntu, the package manager. adding an application has never been so easy.
