skinning gone black question

skinning gone black question

yes i skinned the lockout snow and gave it more of a glossy texture but it turned out black unless im a step away from it. in other words... it is black unless im standing right next to it. Does anyone know how to fix this?

yes its changing lods on you or levels of detail, I suggest you use the machima tool to remove the maps lods.

It can be found in this tutorial pack

Don't use the tool. Everyone needs to stop suggesting that.

When you save the dds, turn on "Generate MIP Maps." That's it. It's that simple.

Considering it offers no noticeable quality increase, puts unnecessary strain on the game, and is completely improper, how about just doing it the right way? =x

Yes, Tural is correct, saving the DDS files the proper way is the way you should do it, I just keep forgetting about that.

Some xbox's can handle the strain but others can't. I know on a couple of my friends it didn't work for their's, so just in case, save them with mipmaps! :)

What are you using? Unless you're using something like MS Paint and that converter program, your editor's plugin should support MIP maps. GIMP is free and its DDS plugin supports MIP maps. It's always a possible solution.

in the meta editor for the bitm. tag make the mip maps 1 and lod's numbers 2 and 3, make all those -1. then extract it, edit it, and inject it, see if that works, it does for me

Which, I assume, is the same (Improper) way of editing the bitmaps when you could just do it correctly from the beginning and save the trouble of changing any values.

It's operator error. If it works for everyone who does it correctly, then the only issue must lie within the person doing it incorrectly.

when i do it like you guys say to do it, then as i go further and further away, at some point, the skin goes back to the original
