I have two issues when dealing with mods I like.
1. Environment
Explanation: Who wants to play the same old of everything? There is nothing better IMO than a new atmosphere with different things to see and look at..or find! It's not fun seeing the same textures and the same tree's or rocks. If you use new or different colors...make sure everything blends together. Nobody wants brick texures on a building and neon green grass blinding you. Make things blend and flow. When random colors and things are put together, it clashes and sways my judgement on the map. I always say "stick to a theme".
2. Balance
Explanation: I can NOT stand a one sided game. I love to see a mod where the game is as balanced as possible. Which is why coagulation and bloodgulch stand out more. There's the same weapons on each side and there are the rockets in the middle. It's not only balanced and fair. There's no way somebody could say it's unfair and one team has the advantage. Both teams have equal chance to get the rockets or their power-ups (Camo / Overshield). Zanzibar is a prime example of how one team can take advantage early in the game. The base team can run and grab the rockets, get to the camo before the beach team, get to the sniper on camp froman and also grab the sword if they truly wanted...all the beach team will have are BR's and Snipers. That doesn't bode well for the team spawning on the beach. Now in a 1 Flag game...it's a little different. Balance is a primary key to my satisfaction.
3. Creativity
Explanation: Using somebody else's creations pisses me off. What's the point of using somebody else's finished product over again...though it's already been used. Granted if it's in a much different situation then I give credit but for the most part...bah. Something new always intrigues me... such as the difference between a snow mod and a desert type. They are different then the original and if you can completely change the way the map feels or looks...then you've caught my attention. Old shit doesn't interest me. Give me something new and vitalizing to look at or feel. Something new is almost always better than the same old thing. It's like eating food. You will get sick of eating pasta all the time. So how about we add a breadstick and swap the spaghetti for some rigatoni. Sounds good? Yup
Hope this helps a bit Scotty!
