Is this graphics card good enough for halo?

Post by TheCookie »

Hi, My birthday is approaching and I want to get a new graphics card because the Intel one i have currently, well sucks.

I have found a particular card and wondering if it will be compatible for Halo.

Heres the link:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... &CatId=695

If there are better ones out there which are near enough the same price and PCI Compatible please give me the link! :)

Theres no rush as my birthday is a month away, but i want to know if it is compatible or not.

Thank you :)

That card will not run Halo. You cannot run any game nowadays with a 20 dollar. Expect to spend at least 50 on a card.

Here are some options which will run Halo at a decent frame rate and settings:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130025

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102677

I have a Radeon X1300 which I am basing this stuff off.

If your going to buy a new graphics card you should know:

-What kind of stuff am I going to use this graphics card for?
-Would I want to overclock it? (Google this if you don't know what it means)\
-What price range am I looking for?

Look at A LOT of reviews for every card you consider.

Places to look at:

-Froogle (Google Products)
-Newegg.com (reviews and buy)
-eBay.com (to buy)
-resellerratings.com (find out if the online shop you just looked at is reliable)
-Search Google!

When you have all of this down and have picked a card, you probably have what you are looking for.

No.
The amount of memory means nothing, a Rage does not support Transform and Lighting, and therefor will not actually execute the Halo engine.

Yeah well mine is so good, it doesn't render half the models properly in halo, let alone texture them properly :)

Also check out some Radeons like the first reply stated. They tend to be pretty stable and good from what I hear.

Yes, the 9250.

I currently run the GeCube Radeon 9250 (PCI) alongside my ATI Radeon x1650 Pro (PCI-E), and the 1950 runs nicely (I use two cards to add outputs for up to four monitors, only three of which I use). The GeCube 9250 has a DVI and a VGA ouput and supports dual-display, so you can span your desktop across both monitors.

Personally, I'd recommend getting a PCI-E compatible motherboard and getting an ATI Radeon x1650 Pro, although the card itself costs a little around $200.

Wait... I think that I remember the 9250 having issues with Halo PC, dunno how well it will work with Halo 2 Vista.

BIG PROBLEM
Vista does NOT support PCI graphics cards. I had to learn that the hard way.

Anything with Rage = no. You will be disappointed.
I suggest you go to Newegg, and use their little search filtering to narrow down what you really want. And I find that Newegg is easier to deal with and many times cheaper.

The basic rule is that if you want it to have the bare minimum of effects, get any card with 128 MB of VRAM. However, I suggest getting 256, so that you can get a good framerate while you're at it.

Go get a discounted ATi Radeon 9200. Runs it fine, and is really cheap now. I saw one at CompUSA for about 30 bucks, and I had that card for years and it's a decent card. Can't run BF2, but it's decent.

Oh, I was mistaken, the Rage series isn't able to emulate Directx 9 which is required to run Halo. T&L is just to get multi textured grounds and shiny cubemaps and such, the 'eye candy' if you will.
